Ramsay?

As a boys name how does Ramsay sound? There's a special reason why I would like the name. It's just whether a boy would be

Ramsay Leonard or
James Ramsay

Basically can Ramsay be a first name or better as a middle?

That truly evil character is what comes to my mind too.
Or Rameses the Egyptian pharaoh. Or a big smelly male sheep. None of them terribly appealing.

But then James Ramsay sounds fine. As does Leonard Ramsay. I suppose that's because it's a surname.

PuraVida · 24/05/2016 20:30

I've gone off an old friend of mine just because his surname is Ramsey and I watch GoT. He never even gets called Ramsey :(

Maudelish · 24/05/2016 21:08

No..... Game of thrones.

MrsDarcy4092 · 24/05/2016 21:41

Clearly I've never seen GoT.

I know one Ramsay. He's a very lovely respiratory Consultant.

I've never seen GoT either!

4point2children · 24/05/2016 21:49

I haven't see game of thrones and really don't intend too lol but I wouldn't let it out you off a name my cousin refuses too tell anybody what she was calling her children until they were born as she didn't want too be put off the names she picked lol

albertcampionscat · 24/05/2016 21:54

Just don't let him play with any little Theons.

Lules · 24/05/2016 21:57

I'm really surprised by how strongly I (inwardly) involuntarily reacted to your question. I can't be the only person who is this emotionally involved in GoT! Please don't do it!

Lules · 24/05/2016 21:59

I mean obviously name your child what you want. There's nothing wrong with the name itself but it will have very bad connotations to a lot of people

Kidnapped · 24/05/2016 22:04

Rather disturbing pic.

Ramsay?

albertcompionscat 😅😅😅😅

I know a few. Two adults, 1 teenager and two about 5ish.

In Scotland though so not common but not that unusual either. I like it but not that keen on Leonard tbh. Ramsay James sounds better.

Siblings that I am aware of are Brodie, Finlay, Kerr and Lorna

DerelictMyBalls · 25/05/2016 18:36

I've never seen Game of Thrones but apparently Ramsay is the name of a big old rapist.

NameChange30 · 25/05/2016 20:04

He's not "just" a rapist. He tortures people. And he cut off Theon's penis.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 25/05/2016 20:10

But it's just a tv programme? I'm sure there are more rapists and nasty folk in the world called Jack, Thomas, Sam etc but no-one stops using those names on that basis.

I'd point out that I've never seen it either :o

lilydaisyrose · 25/05/2016 20:11

I agree - I think not using a lovely name because of a series of books/tv series is daft!

LadyAntonella · 25/05/2016 20:37

I agree with the above but honestly, if you'd seen it - I mean he rapes, enslaves and tortures people in the most cruel ways imaginable. It really made me a bit worried about the writer. Nightmarish stuff - I just couldn't watch it. I obviously wouldn't dislike someone for sharing the name of a tv character - that is daft, but every time I heard it I might think about the character... But that's probably because I had such a strong reaction to the character - it has stuck with me like no other piece of fiction. Shudder. Apparently the actor is just lovely as well!

lightgreenglass · 25/05/2016 20:40

I had the same visceral reaction to the name - don't do it.

Howaboutthisone · 25/05/2016 20:58

That describes is perfectly- visceral reaction! That's what I had too. It's terrible how awful that character is that he's poisoned lots of us against what would otherwise be a lovely name I'm sure. But I just couldn't. I immediately thought Bolton! Noooo!

Lweji · 25/05/2016 21:39

I suspect in a few years it would be fine. Right now Ramsey is the main baddy on GOT, which is quite popular, and people do react strongly to it.

Britnyspears · 26/05/2016 09:01

Its cute, but makes me think of Harold Bishop

gingerboy1912 · 26/05/2016 09:11

Nope. Ramsey street. Gordon Ramsey and Ramsey from game of thrones is sooo vile once you've seen this you wouldn't ever want to call a child that name. Sorry

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 26/05/2016 10:28

I quite liked Harold Bishop.

Remember when he fell off a rock pool abd Madge found his glasses??

:(

LadyAntonella · 26/05/2016 11:08

I just saw the guy who plays Ramsey Bolton on This Morning! He seems so sweet! Said his mum doesn't watch GoT. Just as well really.

twolittleboysonetiredmum · 26/05/2016 12:53

But Joffrey, then he came back!
