This was our original shortlist,

Nancy
Bonnie
Olive
Claudia
Layla
Vivienne

We had it narrowed down to Nancy or Bonnie. I'm leaning towards Nancy and DH towards Bonnie.

Thoughts and middle name suggestions welcome.

There are a couple of Nancys here. Lovely name. Depends if you want something that is popular. I prefer Nancy to Bonnie.

Betty1989 · 24/05/2016 15:54

123rd would you say Nancy is quite popular? I haven't met any around here.

Nancy is a bit more popular than Bonnie but it's still rare enough. Although I see a new film version of Swallows and Amazons is coming out (yay!) so maybe that will give Nancy a further boost.

IoraRua · 24/05/2016 16:01

If forced to pick between Nancy or Bonnie, I'd say Nancy. Bonnie is just a bit bland and wet.

Vivienne is much better though!

123rd · 24/05/2016 16:10

I know of two. One is yr1 and one is a baby. But it's impossible to "future proof" a name. I've only ever met one Bonnie and she was a work pal of my mums, about 35 years ago!

MrsCaecilius · 24/05/2016 16:27

I really dislike Bonnie - but then again I associate it as a dog's name (Blue Peter, 1980s) or with Bonnie Langford.

Of the names you mention Vivienne is a stand out winner to me - pretty (Vivi) and elegant. Lovely.

Floralnomad · 24/05/2016 16:32

Of your original list Vivienne and Claudia
Olive - on the buses ( I'm that old )
Nancy - quite dull
Bonnie - dog / pony name

EllenDegenerate · 24/05/2016 17:53

My cousin is Bonnie Marie (she's 37)

I really like the name and it suits my cousin as an adult (yes she is pretty)

Vivienne is lovely too

SoThatHappened · 24/05/2016 19:41

I only like Vivienne or Claudia on your list.

cecilelliott · 24/05/2016 20:12

Bonnie is a nicer-sounding name IMO. Have you considered Blythe instead?

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 24/05/2016 21:31

Both gorgeous but I'd lean more towards Bonnie.

Nancy is lovely.

Florene · 24/05/2016 21:37

Rose. I appreciate you didn't ask for random suggestions however.

Betty1989 · 24/05/2016 21:48

Thanks everyone for helping - just reading all replies to DH. Rose is dd1's middle name so we wouldn't use that again.

We are surprised how many people love Vivienne.

I think naming second/subsequent children is even harder - I love dd1's name and feel pressure to find a name I love equally as much.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 24/05/2016 22:06

Vanessa?

Anaffaquine123 · 24/05/2016 22:09

My dog was Bonnie so I can't get past that. I love Nancy and Claudia.
Congratulations on your little bundle

julfin · 24/05/2016 22:22

My order of pref:
Claudia
Layla
Bonnie
Vivienne
Nancy
Olive.

I agree one-syllable middle names work well with Bonnie and Nancy.

I would go for Bonnie Clare.

lizziet123 · 25/05/2016 14:34

I feel for you, we have struggled to name our daughter as my DH and i like different names. We finally reached a compromise and named her at 5 weeks old and told friends and family, but I just couldn't 'gel' with the names we had picked. Luckily the night before she was registered at 6 weeks my husband let me change the name to my original choice!

You have some lovely names to pick from. Nancy and Bonnie are both lovely, IMO Bonnie is a 'softer' name whereas Nancy is a bit more abrupt.

Why don't you and DH try calling her one name for few days and then switching to the other name just to get a feel for how they sound. Do let us know which you choose! Congratulations xx

LadyAntonella · 25/05/2016 14:42

Olive is my favourite, followed by Nancy.
