How would you pronounce...

.....the name Kya?

Would you say it K-eye-a or K-ee-ya.

I've name changed as I don't want it to out me, but we called our DD this. I would say that about a third/half of the time people pronounce it the wrong way, and it drives me mad.

K eye a

But I think it would be tricky to know for sure and be understandable that people would choose either or.

StinkyMcgrinky · 15/05/2016 22:28

I would pronounce it Kay-a but when I asked DH he said Kia (as in the car manufacturer) of k-eye-a. I wouldn't pronounce it with a stand alone 'k' sound to start.

Which pronunciation were you going for?

Sophronia · 15/05/2016 22:29

K-eye-a.

Creatureofthenight · 15/05/2016 22:29

Kaya but I'd be rather uncertain!

Fourormore · 15/05/2016 22:30

Ky (rhyming with high) a.

Lightbulbon · 15/05/2016 22:31

Kai-a

Like hiya

Chinks123 · 15/05/2016 22:31

K-eye-a
Because the only Kya I know pronounces it that way. And because T-ee-a, M-ee-a etc have I's rather than Y's.
Sorry if I've pronounced it wrong Blush fwiw people get dds wrong a lot and I have no idea how.

SmallBee · 15/05/2016 22:31

I'd say Kay-ya very uncertainly

DontDeadOpenInside · 15/05/2016 22:31

K eye a

StrumpersPlunkett · 15/05/2016 22:32

K eye a

Alisvolatpropiis · 15/05/2016 22:36

K eye a

Quietattheback · 15/05/2016 22:36

To rhyme with hiya.

dalmatianmad · 15/05/2016 22:36

This is a bit like a very similar name that begins with "M" I genuinely don't know how to say it!

Frazzled2207 · 15/05/2016 22:39

To rhyme with hiya.

ShmooBooMoo · 15/05/2016 22:39

I would pronounce it K-eye-a.

No offence but I have never heard of this as a name and I expect some other won't have either. You can hardly choose an obscure name that could be pronounced two different ways and then get irritated when some people pronounce it 'wrongly'.

rainbowstardrops · 15/05/2016 22:41

I'd pronounce it K eye a

LunaLoveg00d · 15/05/2016 22:41

I would probably say K-eye-ah but agree that if you're going to invent a name with ambiguous pronunciation you can't get annoyed when people get it wrong.

gunting · 15/05/2016 22:43

Key-ah

But if someone told me that was their name I'd think of the car

WhatsGoingOnEh · 15/05/2016 22:44

Rhyming with hiya.

Where did you get this name from??!

cece · 15/05/2016 22:44

I would say Kai a. I used to know a Kyah and she said it like that.

It is like Mia though - some say Mee a and others say My a. I never get it right!

fuctifino · 15/05/2016 22:45

As pp, to rhyme with hiya.

manicinsomniac · 15/05/2016 22:47

Ky - a (like hiya)

I know an Australian girl called Kyah who pronounces it like this and also taught a Kaia which was said the same way. It makes sense that it would be the same as Mya/Myah/Maia

If you wanted Kee-ah I would expect the spelling Kia (like Mia and Tia)

RubyandAlexplayingfetch · 15/05/2016 22:51

To rhyme with hiya
