Expecting DD2 in 6 weeks all being well. I've only heard of one other person called Erina before and thought it was really pretty. Does anyone else have one or know of one? Any issues with the spelling / pronunciation? I don't really want to change the spelling to make it more obvious, but at the same time I don't want to saddle the kid with a lifetime of correcting people.

An old friend of mine had a daughter called Erina and it was pronounced Erin-a. Always thought it was very pretty and never came across anyone else with the same name. Also wouldn't have thought to pronounce it in any other way. I love the name Erin too but it's more common. Go for it...it's lovely.

Ooh yay saffron and coffee 😄some real life examples.
I don't mind Erica but our surname starts with a hard 'C' and we don't like names that give a "ca ca" repetition IYSWIM.

I get you. Caca isn't a great sound and has some unfortunate connotations!

I actually think Erina (to rhyme with Erica, which I think is what you are saying) is very pretty.

I know one Erina, but everyone always pronounces it "Arena" which makes me think of the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham :/

Bringmewineandcake · 11/05/2016 22:51

Yep Erina to (sort of) rhyme with Erica. I really like it. Think I'm trying to persuade myself to be brave and use it now!
We're not far from Birmingham wildheart and can just hear "Arena!" being yelled in a broad brummy accent like MiL's

I can see how having to correct people's pronunciation and spelling might be a pain. You (and she) will probably spend a lot of time saying, "rhymes with Erica" or "like Erin but with an A on the end".

But if you can get over that, it's a lovely name.

Thanks buttered Smile

I know an Erina, spelt that way pronounced eh-reen-a. She's a very talented woman and beautiful both in looks and personality. It's a lovely name and I haven't met anyone who has been confused by the pronunciation.

Birnamwood · 13/05/2016 23:20

I know someone called Erena, and pronounces it e-ren-a. She's a kiwi though so I guess her accent has something to do with the pronunciation! She goes by Ernie aswell (which I love!)

JustABigBearAlan · 13/05/2016 23:25

I knew an Erina and she pronounced it Erin - a.

It's pretty. Erin is nice too, and maybe more straightforward? That said, it's easy enough to spell and people soon learn now to pronounce a name, so I shouldn't let that put you off.

EssentialHummus · 13/05/2016 23:37

I like the name but the spelling looks "off" to me - prefer Irina.

ErinaFrench · 30/03/2020 13:02

Okay! i actually have this name personally, and i pronounce it erin-a,however i know of someone who pronounces it e-reen-a.

MikeUniformMike · 30/03/2020 18:35

I know 2. It's pretty.
Both say it Err-EE-na (Err like in error)

AllRainbowsAndUnicorns · 30/03/2020 20:56

Erinna gets you the short vowel in the middle.

AlliKaneSon · 30/03/2020 23:27

I know of an Erinna (I think the double n makes the pronunciation clearer).

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 31/03/2020 00:45

My name is Erin and I'm really put off by this. It looks like a made-up name and I'm really open minded when it comes to names but I guess because it has my own name within it, I'm like no.

Can you go with either Erin or Irena? It looks like a combo of the two which I dont feel works personally! Again not trying to be mean, I think its jarring to me as it's my name with an "a" added which seems out of place!

MikeUniformMike · 31/03/2020 09:08

It's not made up - the ones I know are over 50 yrs old. Irena looks made up.
Irina is nice too. Irene is beautiful.

Erin is nice but it is very popular but a bit nothingy when so many names start with E are trendy.

Mulanlin · 02/04/2020 23:13

Pretty. Never heard it before.

Flymetothestars · 03/04/2020 11:14

I know an Elina and an Erin
I think it might get an annoying correcting people all the time
