What do you think?

If you didn't pronounce Ida "Eye-da", then the song "Ida, Sweet as Apple Cider" wouldn't rhyme! I've never heard anyone pronounce it "Ee-da"
Ida is a gorgeous name...

butteredmuffin · 06/05/2016 16:02

The two Idas I know are both Ee-da. Eye-da reminds me having to sit through a terrible am dram performance of Princess Ida by Gilbert and Sullivan so maybe that's why I don't like it so much!

septembersunshine · 06/05/2016 18:14

I think it's a letter short of Ada...m!

And worse I think of the snake... the adder snake (obviously the spelling is different but it sounds the same). Unless the name is pronounced differently then I think... but there we are. I'm not loving it.

NadiaWadia · 06/05/2016 18:48

It's pronounced Ay-da, september. To rhyme with raider.

happygoproperty · 06/05/2016 23:56

..
More common than you'd think
Ida Ada Ava Eva avie allie edie are ten a penny teens names ..

Then the newer teens names orla Isla eilidh aaila etc

Isidore is more interesting ?

Alisvolatpropiis · 07/05/2016 00:04

Isidora, surely?

Isidore is a masculine name.

Zhabr · 07/05/2016 08:13

My association will be Ada or Ardor by Vladimir Nabokov, but it's just me🙂 In Russian it is Ada or Erotiada.

DiscordiaVanDiemen · 07/05/2016 12:38

*Zhabr" I love that book!

ArcheryAnnie · 07/05/2016 13:07

It's lovely!

And most of the google results will be good - Lovelace, plus the programming language (named after Lovelace) and so on.

Zhabr · 07/05/2016 18:38

Discordia, we've got the similar taste in books!

allegretto · 08/05/2016 14:47

I know an Ida pronounced ee-da but she's Italian.
