Just that, really!

Is the Nora Batty thing still strong enough to put people off a lovely name?

I like Norah with an H. Nina just seems a bit blah to me

butteredmuffin · 04/05/2016 20:59

Prefer Nina.

Artandco · 04/05/2016 21:04

Nora, it was our first name but we had boys.

I'm 30, I have no idea who Nora Batty is, and no negative connections for me. I think it's timeless and elegant. And not overused atm

RiverTam · 04/05/2016 21:06

Nina

Nora makes me think of 'flaming/bloomin/bloody Nora'.

Artandco · 04/05/2016 21:08

Never heard of bloody Nora either

RiverTam · 04/05/2016 21:38

Bloody Nora is an expression of exasperation, so you might say 'bloody Nora, not again!' when your train is cancelled for the squillionth time that week.

Janek · 04/05/2016 21:40

I have a Nora. She is brilliant, and therefore so is her name!!!

Marmite27 · 04/05/2016 21:42

3 Nora's in our baby groups. Just 1 Nina.

I'd avoid Nora, it looks like it's going the way of Eva/Ava in these parts. (West Yorks).

Startingover2016 · 05/05/2016 07:48

Nora is very old-fashioned. I knew one now in her fifties and it seemed dated for her. It's still a joke name for me because of Nora Batty.

EcclefechanTart · 05/05/2016 12:37

Nora is very nice. Makes me think of The Doll's House rather than Last of the Summer Wine.

Nina I am less keen on. Makes me think of Gina, Tina, etc.

AngharadTheSplendid · 06/05/2016 05:19

No to Gnaw-er

SweetieDrops · 06/05/2016 11:49

Absolutelyfabulously · 06/05/2016 11:51

mrsbee2be · 12/05/2016 22:42

Nora Bone - or Nora Natty.
Someone suggested Leonora. I know an adult Leonora who calls herself Leo, which suits her.

1horatio · 13/05/2016 21:14

Nora is lovely.
I also like Honora and Annora.

LetThereBeCupcakes · 13/05/2016 21:21

Love Nina.

Used to like Nora, but a friend of mine recently named her baby Nora, and now whenever she goes anywhere with the baby she posts it on Facebook with #NoraTheExplorer and I've really gone off the name and my friend

mrsbee2be · 13/05/2016 21:43

Ha ha cupcakes.... I think I've gone off it too now!

SoftSheen · 13/05/2016 21:46

Nora is nice, especially as a shortening of Eleanora.

Nina makes me think 'nee-nah', like the siren on an emergency vehicle...
