I also love Claudia but DH doesn't like the 'claw' sound...he could be persuaded with the Cloudia pronunciation though.

I wouldn't want DD to have to be constantly correcting people if we spell it the usual way-so could we spell it this way? Has anyone seen this before? Don't want it to seem like a made up name!

Don't do it! Please don't.
Just call her Claudia and explain the pronunciation.

HolgerDanske · 01/05/2016 14:00

Oh god no.

Just spell it the proper way. It's a lot better to explain what pronunciation you use than try to explain to everyone you meet why your name is spelt incorrectly!

I'd presume you were a chav and weren't too bright, sorry I'm sure I'll be flamed for that.

TheDowagerCuntess · 01/05/2016 18:40

I quite like it! Certainly don't think you'd face as much derision IRL as on here, op.

Definitely not - people are way too polite to say what they think IRL. But this thread is certainly an indication of what they'll be thinking.

Cosycottage4 · 01/05/2016 19:49

Ok thanks everyone-a clear verdict there! We'll just spell it the usual way.

My initial thought was that you'd meant to type Claudia and that Cloudia was a typo.

villainousbroodmare · 01/05/2016 20:53

Spell it in the usual way and she'll have no problems occasionally correcting pronunciation.

WaitrosePigeon · 01/05/2016 21:46

Everyone would say Clow-dia. Please don't. How silly.

BennyTheBall · 01/05/2016 22:30

I have a friend Claudia - pronounced Cloudia as she is of Italian descent. Much nicer, imo, than Clawdia.

Please don't spell it wrong - people will pronounce it the way you tell them.

CarsonTheButler · 01/05/2016 22:32

"Cloudia" looks like it could be a UTI remedy

NewLife4Me · 01/05/2016 22:35

We have a Claudia in our family, not close family though.
I think it's lovely, she is only early twenties so not an older person if this makes a difference.
people have called her dia which is much preferable to Claude Grin

mammmamia · 01/05/2016 22:39

I also know an Italian Laura pronounced Low-ra but it's spelt Laura

crumpet · 01/05/2016 22:43

I've also heard the name Cleodie, which I think is Scottish - pronounced Cloudy. Pretty.
