I think it's a nice name, but I suppose yeah it's a little matchy.

No, he'd spend his life having it misspelt and mispronounced. And people would think he was named after West country cider.

It looks very 'I made this up because we wanted to look yoonique'. And he'll have a lifetime of mispelling and misprouncing - not the worst thing, you can get that with some traditional names like mine and I don't mind it.

If you want the footballer, just go for Zidane.

Zidane (or Zidan) after footballer could be very cool in my mind. But so are lots of other names.

It's not made up... t's an old arabic name. My husband would like a muslim name.
I very much like old names with a good meaning and history so anything yoooneke is not what we are after. Just don't like many muslim baby boys names at all.

Riyaad or riyaan is another option. But again the double a's ( I think I may be drawn to them)

All these people who say "but it will be mispronounced!" must live in very monocultural areas. Just in my son's primary school class there are children with family from 7 or 8 different countries and a variety of African, European and Asian names. It's really not a huge problem - my son has a pretty mainstream English name and it is always misspelt on birthday invitations!

To be honest isaacs name is quite often spelt wrongly on birthday cards. Issac izak izzak. Once we we em got an issaacc as the sender couldn't Remember which letter was doubled haha

OK if you are Muslim looking for a Muslim name I take it all back! People are going to see your DS in his context.

Do you have an Arabic/Muslim surname as well? It changes the whole context.

As a White British person I would say none of those names look at all made up, especially when they are clearly attached to a baby that shares the culture of the name. However you need an Arabic speaker to tell you whether they think the double As are critical when writing the names in English or not because I just don't know how they are supposed to be spelt.

On reading it, I would think it was Zid-arn. I would also have assumed it was "Arabic" or similar.

Although it has a double a, I don't see it as similar to Isaac.

He will most likely look very mixed race so I think the name will probably suit him. And yes his surname wont be british.

Yes I think that's a good idea. I've seen on baby name forums the name... Than the alternative spellings underneath. Not sure which is the 'right' one so to speak.

If you love it and your dh does then don't worry about it. Think all children will go through s phase of hating their name. My dm said she had named my brother and I number 1 and number 2 so we could have chosen our own names after all the whining when we were teens about our boring names

I would spell it Zidane. I love it! I also love Zenidine. If I ever had another DS with XH (as if) I'd call him Zenidine
