Theodore Lincoln- too presidential??

Hi

DS has arrived and is still a poor namesless baby! We're loving Theodore Lincoln but does it make us sound a bit obsessed with American Presidents? We're not! It's just coincidence they're both presidential names.

We were thinking of maybe adding a second middle name to 'dilute' the presidential feel, maybe:

Theodore Edward Lincoln
Theodore Oscar Lincoln

What do people think? Any other suggestions welcomed. Thank you!

It sounds too presidential for me but most people won't know his middle name so I don't think it's a big problem?

FlowerOfTheWest · 25/03/2016 11:12

I like it! As for a second middle name, Theodore Kennedy Lincoln sounds fantastic! Wink
In all seriousness, I don't think it will be a big problem.

Issie339 · 25/03/2016 11:19

Thanks for the replies! So would you just go for Theodore Lincoln and not bother with a second middle name? I'm sure we'll get some comments on it.

I love Theodore Lincoln......but I think I might love Theodore Kennedy Lincoln a tiny bit moreSmileBlush

Issie339 · 25/03/2016 11:27

Thanks ClosedAura, and would you think we were crazy president-loving people or should we not worry too much about it?

It's a big name to live up to but I love it, Theodore Lincoln is fab with or without Kennedy. You probably will get a few Hmmlooks but I got that when I gave my DCs two middle names.

As the saying goes you'll never please everyone so you may as well just please yourself!

Congratulations Thanks

Flutterworc · 25/03/2016 11:45

Very similar to our DS (3) name - get nothing but compliments for it. You like it, do it! He's your baby!

Issie339 · 25/03/2016 11:54

Thanks everyone, it's so nice to get a good response to the name.

So is everyone saying just go for Theodore Lincoln or add a third name?

OP posts:
Lweji · 25/03/2016 11:58

I wouldn't add a third name as it's only a rod for the child to suffer in life (writing too many names) and it would sound too pompous, IMO.

crapfatbanana · 25/03/2016 12:01

Congratulations! It's fine as it is without a third name.

Issie339 · 25/03/2016 13:14

Just chatted to OH and he's said he'd prefer to add a second middle name (which I'm fine with, DD has 3 names). Any suggestions on what could work well?

Northernlurker · 25/03/2016 13:25

Dh suggests Theodore Ulysses Lincoln Grin

I think Theodore James Lincoln

Issie339 · 25/03/2016 13:39

Ooh Theodore James Lincoln is lovely...though OH already vetoed James as a first name a few months ago when I suggested it so it might be a no from him.

I do think it needs to be quite a traditional/normal name next to the others or it'll all become too much! Though Ulysses is obviously a great suggestion! Grin

Theodore Joseph Lincoln
Theodore Andrew Lincoln
Theodore Robert Lincoln
Theodore Charles Lincoln
Theodore David Lincoln
Theodore Henry Lincoln
Theodore Jacob Lincoln
Theodore Matthew Lincoln
Theodore Joshua Lincoln
Theodore Oliver Lincoln
Theodore Patrick Lincoln
Theodore Thomas Lincoln
Theodore Alfred Lincoln
Theodore James Lincoln
Theodore Gabriel Lincoln
Theodore Arthur Lincoln
Theodore Jasper Lincoln
Theodore Albert Lincoln
Theodore Marcus Lincoln
Theodore Isaac Lincoln
Theodore John Lincoln

Issie339 · 25/03/2016 13:49

Wow thanks sophronia, great list! Henry, Patrick and Thomas are my favourites, I'll try them on OH when he gets home.

StitchesInTime · 25/03/2016 13:54

I think as long as you avoid Abraham you'll be fine.

Issie339 · 25/03/2016 14:22

So OH has just got home and has decided he's happy to go with just Theodore Lincoln. Think we'll announce the name as that and if get a lot of Confused responses we can always think again and add another middle name before we register him.

Thank you so much for all the positive responses to his name, it's really helped!

RockUnit · 25/03/2016 19:58

I like Theodore Edward Lincoln and Theodore Henry Lincoln.

tilder · 25/03/2016 20:00

Great names provided your surname isn't Roosevelt or similar

Congratulations Flowers

nectarini1983 · 25/03/2016 20:17

Not sure....Lincoln sounds like it should be the surname...in which case it wouldn't be too bad. I'm not a fan of surnames as first though in general.

Issie339 · 25/03/2016 21:50

Thanks rockunit I agree Edward and Henry are great choices and definitely front-runners if we decide to add another name when we register him.

I think we'll go with just Theodore Lincoln initially. I know surnamey names aren't to everyone's taste but we quite like these kinds of name.

Thank you everyone for the opinions and suggestions, they're all so helpful.

Just go with Theodore Lincoln. You will only use both names on forms, not many people will ever get to know his middle name. Go for it, great name.

CheeseAndOnionWalkers · 28/03/2016 08:54

Just wanted to say that Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka has had a son called Theodore James.
Don't worry about duplicating the Theodore (great name) and the Lincoln but I'd avoid James for that reason.

Flumplet · 28/03/2016 09:24

I have a Theodore James Matthew.

CheeseAndOnionWalkers · 28/03/2016 09:29

I'm assuming that he's older than Trump's grandson though so they copied his name Grin
