Nina or Zoe

Hi all. We have one daughter already, called Sasha. I had been thinking of calling this one born today (squishy goodness!) Nina, but I'm a bit concerned that Sasha and Nina are too samey, especially as my name in Anna. Sounds a bit like three Russian sisters (we aren't Russian at all).

I also like names with an oh-ee sound, probably because my sister is called Sophie, and Zoe has kind of jumped into the ring as a contender. It's more popular than I'd like, but seems to be decreasing in popularity and Nina is rising. Collective mumsnet wisdom please!

I've taught a few Ninas. It is nice at first, then the children say it over and over and it starts to reminds me a bit of the sound that an ambulance makes??

I like Zoe but I love Nina! It sounds absolutely fine with Sasha and Anna. Is Nina even Russian?!

I like both a lot, but Zoe just edges it.

I think it goes just a bit better with Sasha & it has a lovely meaning too.

I love Nina; pretty and unusual. I know two very cool Ninas!

Nina is a diminutive of Anna. I don't think Sacha and Nina sound too similar. Nina is a name known in several countries. I know a couple of Indian women called Nina too. I think it's a gorgeous name. Not as keen on Zoe but that might be because there are lots in my age group.

I thought Nina when reading the title, but think Zoe and Sasha maybe work better. But you are naming an individual, not a sibling pair, so Nina I think.

In general I prefer Nina, but with your other names I think Zoe is better.

Both Nina and Zoe are great. I slightly lean towards Zoe because it has its own meaning, whereas Nina is (I think) a diminutive of other names, but that's just my preference for naming.

Zoe means Life. My oldest is called Zoe and she's nearly 18 now. There is another Zoe in the extended family (who is 4) but apart from that, we don't really know any other people using the name.

The only Zoe I know pronounces her name as Zo not Zoey. detests zoey

Sasha is short for Alexandra. You are Anna, and Nina is a good third. Names ending in "a" are feminising usually. You like names that end with oh-ee, i.e. Sophie which suggests girlishness and youth. oh-ee names is what you give to Golden Retrievers, surely.

But if you are stuck on it try Sophia (Sofia).
