Could I spell it Scarlet (like the colour)?

I adore the name Scarlet Smile like the colour; not the 'official' name (Scarlett). We are using Fern for the middle (a nature name) not Ferne (most names add an e, if they're nature, etc. to make them more like a name).

However, would Scarlet Fern be okay?

Scarlet Fern does sound rather like a botanical specimen to me. I like both names, but wouldn't put them together.

I had a friend with the middle name Fern as a child - and think of that as the "traditional" spelling.

I think Scarlett Ferne looks much better written down tbh - your alternative just doesn't look quite right.

It does also remind me of Scarlet Fever a bit

How can you "adore" Scarlet spelt with one T, but not with two? It's the same name!
but one is spelt wrong

ALittleGirlIsDue · 15/03/2016 21:22

I do like it both ways! Smile

It's just Scarlet is the colour... It isn't spelt wrong! It's just a 'colour name'

There's a dahlia called a Scarlet Fern ... It's quite pretty.

Scarlett Ferne does look nice, I suppose... Scarlett Rose is worse? I'm not sure what I like in the middle without it sounding Yankee Candle

Flogging, it's quite common to like one spelling but not another. Start a thread suggesting e.g. 'Lucie' and you'll see.
