Thoughts on Wren?

DH thinks it's ridiculous! But I think it's pretty.

He thinks it looks made up?! And if pushed would prefer the spelling Ren, which is a Japanese name and not really what I had in mind!

Others I we are considering are Alice and Nora. We already have an Isobel and a Dexter.

We haven't even started on boys' names yet. DH is a nightmare with coming up with anything and prefers the approach where I do all the thinking and he sits there and makes faces whilst I make suggestions Hmm

Worst name ever.

DPs can be very useful when thinking of baby names ime. I cringe at the names I liked best and am so glad my DP vetoed them all.

One was Lettice!

mrsschu · 15/03/2016 22:52

I don't like it at all, it sounds very light weight to me.

candykane25 · 15/03/2016 22:56

Wren is beautiful. I also love Winter.

Wren is much better than Ren.

NadiaWadia · 16/03/2016 03:45

I don't understand where using the word 'wren' as a name has suddenly come from, never heard of it until a year or two ago. It's not a particularly mellifluous word or anything either, so I really don't get it - why a wren in particular? I don't think it's horrible, but I'm just a bit bemused by it really.

Alice is a gorgeous and classic name. Not quite so keen on Nora, but it certainly seems more like a name than Wren does.

VimFuego101 · 16/03/2016 03:54

Wasn't there a Ren in Neighbours - her full name was Serendipity I think. I prefer Ren to Wren.

GirlOverboard · 16/03/2016 04:40

I like it. It's pretty and unusual. I prefer it spelt that way, I think it looks prettier and more feminine than Ren.

sofato5miles · 16/03/2016 04:55

I love it.

NYCBadger · 16/03/2016 04:58

There was a character in PLL and he was called Wren. My sisters middle name is Wren. I think it is lovely.

nooka · 16/03/2016 05:07

I'm not really sure about Wren, but I'd really not choose Ren for a girl. It sounds/looks masculine to me (Kylo Ren comes to mind).

I'd be really pissed off with a dh who pisses on your choices without putting in any work himself. Can you buy a good name book and get him to pick a list of names he likes or at least cross out all the ones he doesn't?

MamaLazarou · 16/03/2016 19:16

I'm with the OP's DH: it's a very silly name indeed.

But useful if your other child is called Stimpy.

IoraRua · 16/03/2016 20:07

I don't like.
Agree that it's something that works better on a petite person, and the sound of the word just isn't particularly attractive.

Peoniepink · 16/03/2016 20:40

I love it OP, I had an old family member who was known as Wren but actual name was Arianwyn. I only found this out recently whilst discussing names for my bump, I honestly thought she was actually called Wren.

Nadia This family member was born early 1900's and she was always known as Wren so it is certainly not a new name.

LuckySantangelo1 · 16/03/2016 20:45

Wren is a lovely name. I know a baby Wren. Go for it!

Canyouforgiveher · 16/03/2016 20:50

I know an adult Wren. She is very nice (and petite) but I find her name...odd. It isn't a very pretty bird's name to me (like Linnet is for example).

Alice and Nora are great names.

dementedma · 16/03/2016 20:50

I know two female Rens

I know a Wren, it is a lovely name

Sithee · 17/03/2016 02:54

It's my DD's name (she's 7) and suits her down to the ground. Horses for courses innit.

SoThatHappened · 18/03/2016 02:19

Weren't Women's Royal Naval Service : WRNS nicknamed 'Wrens?

Wouldnt like that association either. A bird and in the Navy Grin

Changerazelea · 18/03/2016 19:06

Go for it think it is unusual & pretty. Think a lot of negative comments on names on here can come from over thinking a name, Wren is great and much better to have something stand out than popular
