Seriously losing the will to live. I have done a good handful of threads for his name (sorry) Sad he is growing too fast and hate that he doesn't have a name... We have decided on Elliott for the middle...

We like Matthew Elliott, but not sure I like the fact that he'll have an obvious shortening (so teachers, etc. Will call him Matt) and yet DS is Louis (we call him Lou) but not an obvious NN!

I am going off my whole list which is why I can't leave it any longer...

So, something that goes with Elliott!

what does DS look like?

Ha, that was before he became a mini terror! Something about the head shape and lie of the hair on your little boy reminded me of him though. I have no regrets about choosing Matthew - now trying to think of names for DC2!

As long as you call him Matthew all the time yourself and just correct people when they call him Matt I think it will sink in.
My brother doesn't like it when people shorten his name (he's 25) he just corrects them by saying "it's ---"
Eventually they get it, if they don't get the message after the second time of them shortening it he ignores them till they get it right

I'd go for that then. Elliot Robert Charles.
Middle names are never used in everyday situations, just pop up as a source of conversational interest or at weddings when taking vows.
I think your relatives are not keen on their names as first names.
So, as middle names they important as they after people who are dear ro you. Not burdening.

See though, you wrote it as Elliot, even though I clearly wrote Elliott and I don't want that for him for all his life Hmm

If it helps, my son has an unusual spelling of his name and it doesn't bother him (or me) a jot when people spell it wrong - he's coming up for 15. Even family members get it wrong but they go for something that is neither the normal spelling or his spelling - just something entirely different :)

I have a Louis Matthew and would love you to name this one Matthew so that they're both named after him!

I think he looks like an Oscar. Or Harry. Or Henry. Or Max. I can also see Elliot but would only spell it with one 't'!

He's gorgeous OP, congratulations. Flowers

Beautiful babies.
DP is saying no more babies at me!!! (I have three but my youngest is 2 3/4!)
OP Matthew is a nice name. My friend's son is called Matty. Love that.
But I have nothing against Matt as a nn,think it's quite cool, like Dan or Tom.
Congrats!

Matthew is a good smart name and not over-popular. Matty for short is cute.

I think Matthew Elliott is lovely and really suits him. (And complements Louis nicely.)

I'd spell Elliott like that. Tbh, if you have it as a middle name, ppl will rarely need to spell it so the concern becomes redundant.

Please let us know once you've chosen for sure!

I think Elliott is a fine name for him (whether with one t or two!)

I like Matthew and I think so long as you always call him Matthew it shouldn't be shortened, at least until his friends do it as a teen.

My brither's name is Christopher and in our family he has always been Christopher. In secondary school he did become Chris to his friends but never to family. I also had an ex boyfriend Andrew who hated Andy and would only respond to Andrew so shortening a aren't inevitable.

I'm still flying the flag for him to be Arthur!
