Am only 17 weeks so have a while to go but I like to be prepared Grin Nothing is really grabbing me and DP isn't enamoured by any of them though hasn't come up with any decent suggestions of his own.

Opinions please - no matter how blunt or brutal Grin Alternative suggestions also welcome - thanks :)

Connie - bit bland?
Romy - bit blunt?
Merryn
Megan - too popular?
Edie - too popular?
Maeve - bit bland?
Mabel - bit frumpy?
Florence - nn Florri (DP doesn't like)
Esme
Cora
Bonnie - cute but for under 5s only?
Rosa
Joni/Joanie
Seren
Freya
Thea

Names that we've ruled out for various reasons:
Elsie - DP thinks it sounds like a dogs name. Crazy man.
Elodie - could be shortened to Ellie which I really don't like.
Adelaine/Adeline/Aveline - not sure
Blossom - DP thinks it's a horses name.
Clementine - like but DP hates
Arrietty - love but DP hates
Poppy - friend has named her DD that
Beatrice/Beatrix - DP doesn't like
Liberty - could be shortened to Libby which I don't like.

Rosa is my favourite

DontKillMyVibe · 25/02/2016 20:04

I quite like Bethan (really dislike nn Beth though) but have a family member called Bethany so it's too similar.

I do like Rosa - a friend had a DD called Rosie - infact I know a couple of Rosie's of various ages but I think Rosa is different enough? Though now I'm saying it outloud a few times it could get confused with Rosie, ffs

I like Bonnie and Maeve

DontKillMyVibe · 25/02/2016 20:11

Sgion I love Seth too - ruled out now as I know I'm definitely having a girl (harmony test results)

What about Primrose or am I having another hormonal moment?

I like Megan, Florence and Connie best of your list.

Connie - lovely, not bland at all. I'd use it as a nickname for Constance
Romy - I don't like this
Merryn - OK
Megan - lovely, popular for good reason
Edie - a bit faddy but OK
Maeve - dull
Mabel - not keen
Florence - lovely
Esme - dislike, sounds harsh
Cora - apple core, but like Cara
Bonnie - a dog's name
Rosa - like
Joni/Joanie - don't like
Seren - like
Freya - faddy, dislike
Thea - a bit drippy and sighing

DontKillMyVibe · 25/02/2016 20:30

If I named DD Connie I think I would put Constance on the birth certificate.

DP has just dismissed Primrose as 'trying too hard' Confused His favourite so far is Megan.

Connie - frumpy
Romy - dislike along with Romilly
Merryn - bit meh. Sounds American to me
Megan - I don't think it's popular now. Imagine it would have been popular maybe in the 90's? Like it and like nn Meg
Edie - boring
Maeve - sooooo frumpy. I grew up with a million Maeve's, Niamh's, Orla's etc and find them all really, really dull
Mabel - ok
Florence - nn Florri - quite nice, very popular
Esme - love
Cora - prefer Cara
Bonnie - silly for anyone over 5
Rosa - fine, prefer Rose, love Rosanna
Joni/Joanie - very bland and meh
Seren - no opinion either way, heard it often on here but never met one in RL
Freya - too many of them around at the moment
Thea - bit ugly, makes me think of thighs

Seekingmiracles · 26/02/2016 08:35

Connie - ok
Romy - like
Merryn- nope
Megan - no
Edie - LOVE, top of my list
Maeve - reminds me of an old lady
Mabel - granny
Florence - popular but not my cup of tea
Esme too popular
Cora nope
Bonnie - ok
Rosa nope
Joni/Joanie LOVE
Seren OK, but don't love
Freya too popular
Thea LOVE

DontKillMyVibe · 26/02/2016 14:52

Thanks all for your input Smile At the moment - and this could very well change yet again - I think I've narrowed it down to Merryn or Connie (Constance on birth certificate). Girls names are so much harder than boys IMO!

One last question, do you think Merryn sounds too much like Miriam when said outloud?

Love Merryn. It only sounds a little like Miriam - hard to say if that's 'too much', as only you know how much is too much! (Presume that your MiL isn't known as Miri? Because Miri and Merry are v similar.)

Also like Esme and Rosa, but prefer Rosanna.

Discofairypants · 27/02/2016 20:02

What about Violet ... Letty/Lettie for short? Bit of a compromise to Arletty.

babyand · 28/02/2016 10:45

It depends where you ate living. I have a freya and she is the only one around. People always comment on how unusual her name is

clairemum22 · 28/02/2016 21:38

I like Merryn and wouldn't like it to Miriam. I also like Megan.

clairemum22 · 28/02/2016 21:39

Sorry, liken it to Miriam.

5madthings · 28/02/2016 21:47

My favourite is Merryn, it's my Dd's name :) she is 5 and as a little baby the odd person thought it was miriam but it really doesn't sound like miriam when you say it.

We get lots of positive comments and compliments on her name.

Some of your other names are in our current list for baby due easter, we have similar taste!

JudgeJudySheindlin · 29/02/2016 01:47

Connie - not keen sorry
Romy - like this one
Merryn - like this one more than the last
Megan - was on DH's list hundreds of years ago when DD was born. Now have met so many & not one of them was nice. This has put me off the name.
Edie - Oh yes! Love this name
Maeve - yuck
Mabel - frumpy? Yes, but I still like it
Florence, nn Florri - Feel this is more frumpy than Mabel
Esme - not bad
Cora - getting warmer
Bonnie - NO!
Rosa - One of my current faves & has been for quite a while
Joni/Joanie - Very 1950s American
Seren - Go for it
Freya - was on our list for DS. Now I've no idea why as I really don't like it
Thea - weirdly I love love love this name, while not loving Freya. Such similar names but that feel so different?

Think you've enough names to be going on with so won't suggest any more. The right name will come to you

DontKillMyVibe · 29/02/2016 09:45

There's not a lot of love for Connie on this thread Grin it does feel a bit 'safe' but doesn't seem to be that overused or popular which I like - though maybe now there is a reason for that Grin

It's good that people don't think Merryn sounds too close to Miriam - hopefully I was overthinking it!

Disco - I do like the name Violet though hate the nn Vi - had never thought of Letty as a nn for it. Have seen unfavourable comments on MN about the name though in that people automatically think of Violent when they see/hear the name.

OP posts:
Foxedme · 29/02/2016 09:53

I like Maeve and Freya, I also like Seren but it's v popular where we are (S Wales) so wouldn't choose it myself. Enjoy choosing!

Discofairypants · 29/02/2016 17:22

Dont that's crazy isn't it! I would have never have even thought of violent! Although people will always find a negative 'association' with a name if they think hard enough.

Not keen on Vi though, like yourself.

Foxedme · 29/02/2016 17:34

If you like Seren then what about Serenni - it's Welsh for twinkle (as Seren is Welsh for star).

RiverTam · 29/02/2016 17:39

Merryn
Thea
