Dennis?

DH would love to name DS after his grandfather. Dennis seems to be one of those grandad-chic names that hasn't come back and I'm not sure although pregnancy hormones mean it's a serious contender now when I wouldn't have considered it before.

I do genuinely like Denny and this would probably be what we would call him day to day.

So, is Dennis awful?

Oh be brave enough! I love the name Dennis! And Denny is so cute.
I think it is a great name, an established name with a proper spelling which people will recognise and be able to pronounce, but fairly unusual.

It's the "Dexter" of 10 years ago. Go for it OP! And with the family connection too it's perfect :-)

First name that popped in my head as reading Dennis!

Towardsthesun · 05/02/2016 08:57

Oh no poor kid.

It's worse than Nigel or Derek or Brian or Trevor type names.

MadameDePompom · 05/02/2016 11:13

I know a 7 year old Dennis. Nice child, horrible name.

Don't think the world is quite ready for the comeback of Dennis (or Roger, Steve, Barry etc...)

redmini4 · 07/02/2016 00:03

Dennis is my cousins name. It's not a name I would go for but why not as a middle name. Although as a mark of respect for the grandfather be proud and use it.

cecilelliott · 07/02/2016 14:17

It's ok - I prefer Douglas/Dougal which has a similar vibe

NoArmaniNoPunani · 07/02/2016 14:19

I really like Dennis. But then my new baby has quite an old fashioned name.

FarrowandBallAche · 07/02/2016 17:49

Reminds me of the sketch show with ' little Dennis Waterman '

Narp · 07/02/2016 19:26

I think that as a second name it would be lovely

Narp · 07/02/2016 19:27

It's quite a popular name in the Turkish community - spelled Deniz

pilates · 07/02/2016 19:52

I would use it as a middle name.

EmmaWoodlouse · 10/02/2016 16:48

It's not quite my thing but I don't dislike it at all - as long as you use that spelling! (Denis with one N reminds me too much of Denis Thatcher and penis!)

Shemozzle · 12/02/2016 00:35

I've always loved it, I think of a cheeky boy as in the Dennis film and Dennis the Menace, and not middle aged men.

But then I also love the name Morris/Maurice too.
