I'm soon to meet an acquaintance's daughter and have only seen her name (on Facebook). I always assumed it was Ay-la but they are English (we're Scottish) and now we're wondering if it's an Anglicised version of Isla? Hoping they introduce her straight away!

I know Nadia :) I'm sitting here chanting "Kayla, sayla" to myself and chuckling. I'm so cool

Yes, we pronounce the r. So it's Kay-luh and Ay-luh, say-lerrr and tay-lerr. Sailor rhymed with tailor but not Kayla, to me.

Ayla can also be a Hebrew name (a variant spelling of Elah), meaning 'oak tree', and the pronunciation is eye-la (just like the Turkish form).
