Hi, I really like the name Emily but am put off by how popular it is! Although I think it will go nice with my odd surname (Crumb).

Any other suggestions please? Struggling to find many girl names that I like!!

defensive much roussette? Hmm

Roussette · 12/01/2016 09:07

defensive ? Of what? I don't have an Emily if that's what you're thinking! I just think it's a nice name

Hmm back atcha!

crumb04 · 12/01/2016 09:38

Thanks everyone! Yeah I don't think it's a dull name and think it's very pretty! I guess I just worry there will be lots in the class or something. I have an Ethan and Libby, both not unheard of names but not too popular either. My DD actually doesn't like her name because no one else has the same name Grin I actually thought I'd find boys names harder but it turns out no! lol

Emily sounds really good with Crumb. Haven't met any Emilys at baby groups.

MooseAndSquirrel · 12/01/2016 10:03

Ive an Emily (emz for short) there's only one other at her school, when compared the multiple ava's evie's and lilly's it doesn't seem overused iykwim
Emily crumb does sound pretty cool, defo needs a story written about her

These forums are great! It really gives you a good idea of people's opinions/views.

Another name I though of was Elodie? But funnily enough am wondering if it's a bit too unusual! Lmao!! Oh dear!!

I'm not keen on Emily, not because it's popular or dull, just not a name I like but I do think it sounds good with your surname!

Someone suggested Clara Crumb which I also think sounds great and is not popular or dull!

FlopIsMyHero · 12/01/2016 13:26

Emily Crumb is brilliant Grin you must use it!

I think that with quite a string/distinctive surname, it's good to have an easier first name.

Also Emily is popular, but timeless - there were Emilys at achool with me, and Emily at school with my DC.

nextusername · 12/01/2016 13:27

I prefer Emily to Elodie.

spankhurst · 12/01/2016 13:30

Emily is a very popular name - I think the second most popular name in recent years..?

Nonetheless it's lovely, timeless and just a teeny bit quirky.

DiscoDiva70 · 12/01/2016 13:35

How about Emilia Crumb? Still sounds great, and I don't think there's as many Emilia's about as there are Emilia's

DiscoDiva70 · 12/01/2016 13:35
  • about as there are Emily"s!
FunkyPeacock · 12/01/2016 13:40

Emily Crumb sounds great

All the Emilys I know are age 9+ so I'm not convinced it is still top 10 for baby girls being born in 2016

It's a nice name anyway regardless of its popularity

Ilovegummibears · 12/01/2016 14:19

I think Emily was THE most popular name for a number of years. It is very very popular. There are also a lot of Amelies, Emilias and Amelias around.

Nothing wrong with that, other than that she may have to add her surname initial and/or the name may eventually fall out of favour and sound a little dated. I also find that overused names get a little dull if heard all the time.

But at the end of the day, we all have different preferences and it is up to how much you love them name.

leoniethelioness · 12/01/2016 14:51

I like Emily Crumb but you might like Verity or Felicity or Emmeline or Cecily or Melanie or Ottilie as alternatives.

TheGreenNinja · 12/01/2016 14:55

Emily Crumb is a wonderful name!! I am biased as I also have an Emily, and we ummed and ahhed about it because it was so popular, but in reality we've come across very few others. I don't know where they are all hiding!

mydogeatsnutstoo · 12/01/2016 14:55

The last 2 baby girls I know of were called Emily - I personally find it dull and unimaginative though inoffensive. Emily Crumb does sound good though. Just read David Walliams Mr Stink with dc and the main character in that is Chloe Crumb (so don't use Chloe!)

FunkyPeacock · 12/01/2016 15:03

Agree with Leonie above, Verity & Cecily both sounds great with Crumb!
