Opinions on Gideon?

I wanted something unusual, but still 'normal' - so I had decided on Gideon, but now I'm not so sure... Depending on the feedback, it will be the middle name! I would still like it as the first name though... Thank you :)

There's nothing wrong with it, so if you like it then use it. Personally I don't like the "giddy" sound to it though.

TheOptimisticPessimist · 10/01/2016 11:01
this is what I think of when I hear Gideon...
SummerMonths · 10/01/2016 11:05

He's a gorgeous baby OP. Congratulations.

But nothing that lovely deserves a name like Gideon.

SummerMonths · 10/01/2016 11:07

What about Grayson if you like names ending in "on"?

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 10/01/2016 13:17

I'm not keen, but I do have a little crush on a Voice actor called Gideon Emery so I cant really dislike it that much.

nextusername · 10/01/2016 13:37

A few names ending in "on"...

Simon
Aaron
Edison
Harrison
Leon

Or Cameron, Gordon or Winston on the political theme!

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 10/01/2016 15:01

Gideon Osbourne. A big no no. It also means destroyer

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 10/01/2016 15:02

No wonder he changed it.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 10/01/2016 15:11

Although it does fit though, doesnt it, Ghost?

leoniethelioness · 10/01/2016 15:54

I don't mind Gideon. I think your little boy looks like an Aaron.

Wafflenose · 10/01/2016 16:15

Gideon is a fabulous name. I can't believe what a hard time you're getting on here. Go for it - it's great. And congratulations on your gorgeous son.

Zhabr · 10/01/2016 17:59

I am a foreigner and I'm afraid I chuckled when I have heard this name for the first time in my life. Then I apologised and my friend said something like "it's OK, I generally avoid to mention my husband's name because people react like that".

rainbowstardrops · 10/01/2016 19:31

I said earlier that Gideon isn't my cup of tea but I've heard worse!
I really like Edison that was mentioned earlier. Not a bible name but an important one none the less.

Am I seriously the only one old enough here that immediately thinks of Gideon the duck???

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/01/2016 19:38

I like it.

ConesOfDunshire · 10/01/2016 21:17

If the Tories stay in power (likely) and Osborne wins the leadership election then he'll be the next PM, just as your child starts school.

Unoriginalusername123 · 10/01/2016 22:14

I'm not a huge fan of Gideon as a first name but really quite like the flow of Noah Gideon. But what about Noah Samson as another option? Gorgeous baby, by the way....

Just seen the pic. He is utterly beautiful. Gideon is a zillion times better than Elton.

FoxesSitOnBoxes · 11/01/2016 19:47

He's beautiful! Gideon is hideous (sorry) Noah is lovely

Raines100 · 11/01/2016 20:18

Absolutely gorgeous boy! Congrats!

Think you should be aware that Gideon is the name of the main character in one of the more well-known Fifty Shades of Shit knockoffs. If my SiL is to be believed, this is what everyone will think of.

If you're only using it as a mn I wouldn't stress too much, though.

nextusername · 11/01/2016 20:25

Who's Gideon the duck, rainbow?

SpecialistSnowflake · 11/01/2016 20:51

I know a Gideon who is lovely, but I do think George Osborne has ruined it (just a drop in the ocean of things he's ruined...)

FellOutOfBedTwice · 11/01/2016 20:54

Another one who came on to say Osbourne. Who is a cunt.
