What are your opinions on Katie Rose?

Hello, I'm new to Mumsnet :)

DH and I, are expecting our 1st baby in February! It's a girl and we are thinking Katie Rose - Katie seems to be getting used less and less, but I think it's great for a child and adult (DH likes it, but would rather Rosie Winter - we did always agree the middle name would be which ever season she is born in, but I prefer all the other seasons' names!)

Opinions would be great :)

Kate / Katie seems to be more popular than Rose / Rosie where I live.

Oh, I always thought Rosie was pretty popular and family say that it isn't very suitable for an adult?

I like them both but prefer Rosie Winter x

Hmm, they're both lovely so it's tough.

I love Rose as a first name and think Winter is lovely too so would probably say go for Rose Winter.

Katie Rose is also beautiful though. Great choices.

Sorry I just noticed you said Rosie not Rose for a first name, my mistake!! Rosie Winter is lovely too.

I do like how Winter is more unusual - she would be a Rosie tho :)

Both lovely names but will Katie be shortening of Katherine, catherine, Kathryn?

I have a grownup friend who is one of these longer names that is shortened to Katie by family and friends but chooses the full version for work.

I think this is worth considering when choosing a name.

Very safe names, but I think you should call her by the proper long name then shorten as a nickname

When you say you like the other seasons - is there a change she would've been called Katie Spring?!

My niece is Katie rose, beautiful name. Go for it.

I know 2 adult Rosie's, although one of them is short for Rosalind or Rosamund or Rosemary or something like that. I forget which. Anyway, they don't seem bothered about Rosie being unsuitable for an adult.

She won't have a longer version, she'll just be a Katie (she could always go by Kate, if she wanted to) and no, she probably wouldn't have been Katie Spring - I actually only like Katie Rose (I'm not even a big fan of Katie Winter, so that's why she would be a Rosie Winter, but Rosie Spring or Summer, doesn't particularly go - she probably would have been Olivia Spring or Emilia Spring) :)

I much prefer Rose as a first name. I often think when it is used as a MN its a sort of "filler" name. Like Jane, Louise, Marie etc.

Katie is lovely, not a fan at all of Rosie.

Id go for Katie Winter Surname or Rose Winter Surname

Sorry to be a pain, but what's the difference between Rose and Rosie?

Rose is elegant, strong and classic.

Rosie is fluffy and (imo) more suitable for a cat than a person.

Only my opinion though.

Kate is nicer than Katie. Maybe its the ie.on the end.

Rose is a name in itself and IME has a certain grace about it.

Rosie is a cute, nick name kind of name. Doesn't sound like a grown up name to me.

My youngest is Rosabel, nn Rosie. I love Rosie, but only on a toddler. ;) I have always given my children full names with nn options for them to decide as they grow up.

Katie Rose is lovely. One of my g/children has Rose as her middle name and it's very nice.

I do think Rose is more elegant and grown up than Rosie, I do much prefer it, it's timeless and very under-used in my opinion. I think Rosie is a bit 'cutesy', still a lovely name though.

Rosie sounds more nicknamey than Rose. Just like Katie sounds more nicknamey than Kate.

Some people prefer to go for more formal names so the child has a formal and a nicknamey option to pick from when they're fully grown. But there's a trend for babies to be given nicknames rather than long versions on birth certificates these days, so Rosie or Katie won't seem unusual from that point of view among their peers.

I respect your opinions, but I just don't see how being named Katie or Rosie, nicknamed Kate or Rose, is any different to being named Kate or Rose, nicknamed Katie or Rosie? :) I really don't like and long forms of Kate/Katie... I do like Rosanna though? Rosabel is gorgeous! Lovely choice :) I also like Roselle? :)

I think it's because Katie and Rosie are already nick names. As is Kate, though not Rose.

But as PP have said, pretty much anything goes these days so choose what you both prefer

Like a pp said, nicknames as full names are popular these days, so she isn't going to be any different from her peers as an adult. Choose something you love! Middle names are fun (we use family names in the middle slot) and kind of a free-for-all for creativity.
