Alternatives to Léonie?

I'm liking Léonie but I have a feeling people may have trouble pronouncing it with the accent (lay-oh-nee) and I don't like how it sounds without the accent (lee-oh-nee).

Any and all suggestions are welcome. Especially French names Smile

If you are in the UK you will have people not being able to pronounce any foreign name to be honest.

I have a very simple Spanish name (said how it's spelt really) and it gets massacred daily.

Not to put you off, just warning you. You may as well pick the name you love as you'll struggle to get any foreign name pronounced correctly (unless it's something like Marie for eg)

I would pronounced as you Lay-oh-nee too. I knew a Leonie who was known as Lennie. Something to consider if you don't like shortenings.

Léonie is gorgeous, OP Smile

If you didn't go with that, I'd suggest:

Noémie
Emeline (NN Mimie)
Lucienne (that's my planned DD name)
Camille
Josée

I knew a wee Léonie whose big sister was Louison, which I think is traditionally a male name but cool AF.

Joséphine

Sidonie is a bit like Leonie and is also French. Can be pronounced Sid oh nay or Sid oh nee, whatever you like.

Branleuse · 30/12/2015 21:07

I dont think Leonie is hard to pronounce, but tbh, any foreign name will bamboozle some people.
My dd is Anais, so ive had my fair share of correcting people. Its no big deal

DancingDuck · 30/12/2015 21:11

Leonie is gorgeous. I knew one without the accent and everyone called her Layohnee not Lee.
