Please help me out with suggestions for DS3

He is due in 3 weeks. Ds1 and 2 have unusual biblical names but go by the short versions. I can't help feeling that I might have missed the ideal name, so I can't settle on anything.

Here are some of the names we have discussed including the 2 front runners, I won't say which they are because I'd appreciate some constructive criticism and new suggestions.
We are in the habit of shortening just about anything so it needs to be nicknameable.

Evan
Lemuel
Levon
Emmanuel
Ignatius
Wystan
Casimir
Jedidiah
Ishmael

Congratulations on the imminent arrival of DS3.

The name Jedidiah jumped out at me, I don't think I would use it as it made think of the Return of the Jedda immediately.

If you are going to shorten the names, perhaps starting from the NN might be a good way to start? i.e. Wystan = Wyn, Wynnie or Stan; Emmanuel = Manny; Ignatius = Iggie, Nat, Nattie or Natius; Ishmael = Ishy or Mael.

Some more suggestions for you:
Jesse
Hezekiah
Laban
Samson
Amos
Zephaniah
Cyrus

Whatsinaname2011 · 29/12/2015 06:14

My favourite there is jedediah (jed)

CakeRattleandRoll · 29/12/2015 06:17

Really like Casimir and Ignatius.

doceodocere · 29/12/2015 06:18

Thanks for your ideas!

chottie I totally agree working backwards from the nn is a good strategy. For this reason I think Casimir is out, although I love it, I'm not keen on Cas.

ifi Zephaniah is fabulous! DH feels it's a bit much Sad

Ishmael is great. I know (an adult) one who goes by Ish.

Personally I think Ignatius is a bit much.

Evan - like, a good solid name
Lemuel - reminds me of lemurs and mules
Levon - could be misheard as Lemon
Emmanuel - OK
Ignatius - don't like
Wystan - OK
Casimir - OK
Jedidiah - quite like this
Ishmael - not keen

StDogolphin · 29/12/2015 18:40

Ish!

OSETmum · 29/12/2015 18:41

I quite like Levon and Wystan but the rest sound a bit of a mouthful! ( well not Evan but there are lots of Evans!) how about Josiah?

doceodocere · 30/12/2015 11:17

Josiah is too similar to my name.

Adlai I love but would cause confusion with DS1's name.

I like Abel nn Abe but DH isn't convinced.

We both like Malachi but what would we use for a nn?

This is very difficult! The others seemed to name themselves while they were inside, and their names fitted perfectly once they were out.

MadFestiveGnome · 30/12/2015 11:22

I know a little Jebadiah nn Jeb, think that's very cute.

Nathaniel nn Nate?

MadFestiveGnome · 30/12/2015 11:23

Jebediah rather, can't even spell it!

MadFestiveGnome · 30/12/2015 11:56

Ezekiel?
Ezra?

doceodocere · 30/12/2015 12:25

Can't cope with the Jeb Bush association, otherwise I'd like it.

Close relatives have an Ezra...

And Ezekiel used to be my favourite name - I like the nns Zeke or Ziggy - in fact I pushed for it with both DSs but I am unaccountably less keen on it this time round.

But what if Mal moves to francophone country...

3luckystars · 30/12/2015 15:11

Oh I had to Google that!!!! I am too thick for this thread I think, best of luck with your names op, I hope you find a lovely one. Sorry if I was no help.

doceodocere · 30/12/2015 15:53

That's the problem with Mal. And I dislike Kai.
