Weird or Pretty?

Really contemplating 'Silver' for DC3, not sure of spelling - Silver, Sylva or Silva?

Is it pretty and unusual or just weird and therefore setting DD up for lifetime of teasing/judgement?

I used to know a Silva. I love it.

xmasseason · 26/12/2015 13:18

I like Silver. I wouldn't spell it Sylva or Silva because I think people would mis-read it as Syliva (which I also like).

WishesForSunshine · 26/12/2015 16:55

Thanks everyone.
Mixed opinions but some who do like which is reassuring :)
Swaying towards the regular Silver spelling.

I like it, and think pretty not weird.

YeOldeTrout · 26/12/2015 17:14

Pretty.

LastAnni · 26/12/2015 17:46

Friend of mine has a baby Silver. I think it's lovely. Also like it spelt Sylva.

xmasseason · 26/12/2015 18:14

Syliva not Syliva!

wineandcheeseplease · 26/12/2015 18:16

Very weird

BatmanLovesBaubles · 26/12/2015 18:29

Thought weird at first, but it's grown on me. I quite like it, although I wouldn't be brave enough to name a child of my own it. Stick with original spelling.

BeaufortBelle · 26/12/2015 18:34

If you are going to use it, spell it properly. I suppose it's better than copper, platinum or mercury Smile

xmasseason · 26/12/2015 18:38

How did I type that wrong again?? Sylvia!

xmasseason · 26/12/2015 18:39

Mercury would be a fab name!

originalmavis · 26/12/2015 18:49

There's no surname that would work with. Maybe Bojangles.

BeaufortBelle · 26/12/2015 20:17

mercury would be a fab name. Eek no - up and down like a mercurial personality has a resonance with illnesses like bi-polar !

MissAlabamaWhitman · 26/12/2015 21:40

If you name her silver and it results in piss taking she can always call herself sylvie/silvie which is ubiquitously gorgeous.

Go on, name her silver, take a risk if you love it.

It's always going to be preferable to Amelia, Mia, Ava et al 😉

MissAlabamaWhitman · 26/12/2015 21:42

And yes Mercury is ridiculous.

Mercutio on the other hand is all kinds of fabulous.

GreatFuckability · 26/12/2015 21:45

I really like it. It appeals to my hippie side. But I have a child named Rainbow (in welsh) so I would. Go for it!

If you're going to call them silver at least spell it properly...

AnnaMarlowe · 26/12/2015 22:22

I think that it might be one of those names that will work best the the woman is beautiful but might seem odd otherwise..,

perrita · 26/12/2015 23:01

I love it! Makes me think of 90210 but v pretty but I'd definitely spell it properly

NHKX2 · 26/12/2015 23:38

It sounds like a stage name to me. A stage that has a pole on it.

brookeberry · 27/12/2015 07:55

I really like Silver. I've never heard it as a name before. I don't think it's weird, it's original and rather cool.

WillSomebodyThinkOfStefan · 27/12/2015 07:58

It's a great name for a horse.

stopitcaroline · 27/12/2015 08:12

I'm surprising myself here, because I have really traditional taste, but I think Silver is pretty cool. There's no reason it shouldn't be a name.

The whole Silva thing doesn't make sense in my accent but as a general rule I think it's kinder to the child to spell his/her name conventionally.
