Edith or Madeleine

Hi all,

Just wondered which of the names you prefer??

Edith
Or
Medeleine

We have a very long list but these two keep coming out top but we can't seem to decide!

They're both very nice :) I think I like Edith marginally better. It doesn't travel, though - she would be Edit in many parts of the world.

But Edie is a wonderful nickname.

Edith nn Edie. Love Edie and regret not using it.

Madeleine and Theo.

Close on both - lovely names. I know a The so bias pulls me that way, and Edith but again very slightly. Good luck with your baby!!

It's so hard trying to decide...

I guess we will have to see what jumps at us once baby is here.

I don't watch downton, is there a character called Edith?

At the moment I prefer Madeleine to Edith but prefer edie to maddie!

As for boys I'm in love with them both but kind of think Seth would prob be slightly less popular so would avoid having 2/3 in his class at school.

Madeleine still reminds me of mccann. Not that that is a bad thing.

Madeleine was on my list for DD aged less than a year older than Madeleine McCann. So glad I didn't pick it. Also, Madeleine starts with Mad. Not sure I live that.

So although Madeleine is nice, Edith,by a big margin.

Edith and Seth were my favourites when pregnant with DC2 but couldn't convince DH for Edith and we had a girl second time round so Seth was out the window. Excellent taste in names

Edith and Theo would be my winners, just because I'm not keen on Maddie as a possible nickname for Madeline. Seth is lovely too.

Madeleine for me but I would say that as if our baby is a girl, this is our number one choice! I love what the pp said about ballerina, sitting outside a cafe - lovely

I do love Maddy and Mads too though - it is important you like the nn as well isn't it. Good luck!

Oh just to add re - whoever said there were millions of Madeleine's toddling around, it's only number 283 in the baby name charts! I would say Edith is getting more popular, not that that is necessarily a bad thing, but Madeleine really isn't over used.

I love Madeleine, one of my favourite names.
Edith is a bit fusty for me although I do like Edie and Meredith.
Seth is much nicer than Theo original IMO.
