Not strictly baby name related, so apologies. I've got the chance to use a different first name for some new work I'm embarking on. It's a complete change of career (design) and a chance for me to make a complete break from my past. I would like to use a different first name for my work and wanted something arty and sea related I suppose. What do people think of these. I'm in my late 30s so a bit out of touch with modern naming trends. My surname is Farrell

I love Nell, but how about Maris or Marina?

leoniethelioness · 03/12/2015 21:32

Marina or Doris

How about Miranda, after the Tempest?

How about a name from mythology?
Galene - Greek goddess of calm seas
Sedna - Inuit goddess of the seas
Sirena - Philippine mermaid
Mari - a Basque weather goddess

My favourite is Brigid, Celtic goddess of art, poetry and general productivity, fecundity and creativity.

Thank you for your suggestions. I like Brigid but can't use for family reasons. Miranda makes me think of Miranda Hart...lol

Mariana, or simply Maria. Not a fan of the others, sorry.
Some word for blue, I suppose, like Azure.

Artist99 · 04/12/2015 12:32

Would like to stay clear of any Mary like connotations or derivatives but open to other suggestions

I really like Lamorna from your list. I like Nell and Lowenna too. I want something that sounds cheerful and creative. A break from the past :)
