Why are boys' names so hard?!

Ok, so it's a boy (unless the 20 week scan sonographer was mistaken, in which case it's ok, I'm sorted for a girl's name) and I'm awful at boys' names.

Middle name will be John, and surname is a 1-syllable, beginning with D, let's channel Batman for the point of this thread and say 'Dent', which is close enough. I feel like the forename needs to be 2+ syllables in order to not sound quite so sharp. First child, so no siblings to fit with.

Ideas so far are, in order of current preference;

• Kester John Dent
• Dominic John Dent
• Jeremy John Dent

Names considered, but abandoned for various reasons are;
Simon, Westley, Rowan, Robin, Gideon, Nathaniel, Ossin, Duncan, Edison

What do you think? Any suggestions? I'm currently 29+2, so hopefully have another 11ish weeks to think about this.

No, the repeated initial isn't my favourite thing.

I once knew a Kester and he was a lovely man. The name really suited him. I like it.

Shame about Gideon! I like it!

We have similar taste, OP. I have a Nathaniel, and on my list for number 2 are Kester (nn Kit), Roman and Rowan. In fact, if you can be bothered you should search for the thread I started a few weeks ago that got loads of lovely ideas.

You might also like Benedict, Jerome, Lawrence and Rufus.

Rohan (spelt this way) is one of my fave it's names. I dislike Kester. Dominic is ok but I struggled pronouncing this as a child always said Donamic!!
Jeremy is not my taste at all. I dislike the nn Jem too.

My fave boys names are Ewan, Rohan, Harry,Daniel.

I really like Kester. To the pp above who asked if it was "even a name", it is the Scottish form of Christopher, which is somewhat ironic as you have suggested both Christopher and the traditionally Scottish name Cameron (and Alexander)!

Also like Dominic and the double initial wouldn't bother me.

I like Kester, Rowan and Robin. Or how about Tristan or Quentin?
I'd avoid Dom/Dominic with Dent as surname - too alliterative imo.

Sebastian John Dent has a lovely ring to it.

I get what you mean about wanting a longer name so it is not so abrupt, but chances are it will be shortened by his mates anyway, so you might want to think about a name with a longer nickname e.g. Dominic will get 'Dom' but Alexander will get 'Alex'.
