We have a Jack and a Kate. We don't know what it is but have a boys name I think (although happy to hear any ideas) but are struggling with a girls name and are toying with the following for a girl:

Elisabeth - I don't really like any of the nn's so am afraid I would struggle to keep it at the full name
Mary - I kind of like this, its so plain its interesting (or maybe its just plain) but our last name starts with M, not sure that is a problem
Annie - This was our top last time but suddenly fell in love with Kate. I was never 100% on it.
Maggie - a strong contender
Daisy & Lucy - Nice but a bit weak and sweet for me

Any thoughts? Or ideas? I also like Rebecca and Laura but DH doesn't.

And another vote for Emma. Simple, spellable and pronounceable all over the world, pretty, unusual in this generation.

Agree with all points except the last. Not in the British top 50, but was ranked the number 1 girl's name for 2014 in:

Belgium
Denmark
France
Norway
and USA

As well as very high in Canada, Ireland and Australia.
And 17th in Scotland and 19th in Northern Ireland.

Martha?

DeepBlueLake · 13/11/2015 03:29

Really like Annie and Annabelle would be a good birth certificate name.

Can't stand Mary, not keen on Elisabeth and Maggie is ok on it's own but I wouldn't use it as a full name, plus it reminds me of The Simpsons.

Suggestions:
Abigail
Louisa
Megan

Mary sounds like a contender. Does that work with your surname?

If you are taken with sticking to four letter names, saw Nora suggested on another thread recently.

oneboy3girls · 13/11/2015 11:06

Lara

pilates · 13/11/2015 13:15

Rose, Esme or Louisa

Jw35 · 13/11/2015 13:33

Emma or Martha would go well with Kate. I don't like Annie as much as Anna. Not keen on other names

hinkyhonk · 13/11/2015 13:40

Care to share your boys name to give an idea of what you like now?

doceodocere · 13/11/2015 13:45

I like Lucy and Mary, also Annie although I prefer Anna.
Alice would work.
How about Jane, Joan, Hannah?

whatdoIget · 13/11/2015 13:49

Louisa
Polly

sarahquilt · 13/11/2015 14:05

I like Maggie.

Janet
Louise/Louisa
Pippa
Tara
Cleo

I like Elisabeth and Mary the best.

Dislike Maggie, it sounds so harsh and ugly imo. Also reminds me of Maggi.

StDogolphin · 13/11/2015 16:39

Margot
Emma

Hi all, thanks for the input. Most of you are spot on with other names we have debated about. Firstly Alice, unfortunately is Kates middle name after both our grandmothers. Otherwise it would be a strong contender this time. I love Emma and only know fantastic people called Emma but my cousins are Kate and Emma. It feel weird to reuse the combination. I love Martha but dh doesn't. I slightly prefer Anna to Annie but dh really likes Annie. Jane is like Mary to me and I have suggested it. Main reason not to shortlist it is I prefer not to repeat it.

I did suggest Lois a while ago and still quite like it but dh is not keen.

It's been good to hear everyone's thoughts, thanks!

Not to repeat it = not to repeat initials with Jack.

Go for Anna, with Annie as nickname?

susurration · 13/11/2015 21:03

I like Mary. It sits nicely with Jack and Kate, especially with them all being four letter names.

ExBallerina · 13/11/2015 21:33

I love Mary and Anna...or Anne. You can get Annie with either.

Sophronia · 13/11/2015 21:40

Yes Anna with Annie as a nickname would be lovely.

MitzyLeFrouf · 14/11/2015 03:48

I think Jack and Kate's sister is called Susan.

justonemorethread · 14/11/2015 05:47

Or maybe Suzanne, and Annie for short!

Raines100 · 14/11/2015 08:29

Well both Maggie and Daisy are diminutives for Margaret so call her Margaret and keep your options open!
