Trying to decide on girls name for soon to be born DD1. I quite like the name Ayda but just wondering how people would pronounce it...would it be more like "Ada" or "Ida" for example?
Other names like are Elsa, Sophia and Eva but just can't decide!! Argh it's so difficult!

On first glance I'd assume it was meant to be pronounced like Aida, so eye-ee-da. If you like Ada, I'd go for that spelling and dispense with the y.

I love, love, love Elsa but the Frozen thing might put me off.

MrsLeighHalfpenny · 31/10/2015 00:43

Eye-da??

Anna2710 · 31/10/2015 00:44

I love Elsa too but it's the whole Frozen thing which makes me dubious too!

Seeing it written, I'd be torn between Ada and Aaa-eee-da. Confused

Elsa is a bit "Frozen" to me - isn't that the name of one of the characters? (Just old enough to have missed the frenzy Blush)

Sophia and Eva are both better.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 31/10/2015 00:46

I would just assume it was an unusual spelling of Ada and I would pronounce it as such.

Anna2710 · 31/10/2015 00:53

Elsa is the name of one of the characters...not that I have ever actually seen it myself either and the reason I like it is nothing to actually do with Frozen, it's actually related to a DP family name.

Well, if you have a rl connection, go for it! Or Elsie? (In My Day, Elsie would have been short for Elspeth)

RiaOverTheRainbow · 31/10/2015 01:19

Why not just use Ada (or Ida if that's the pronunciation you prefer) and save yourself the misspellings?

RiaOverTheRainbow · 31/10/2015 01:22

Oh, you might also like Ailsa.

celtictoast · 31/10/2015 17:23

I'd assume it was pronounced Ada.

IoraRua · 31/10/2015 19:12

I'd be pronouncing it like Ada too.

elor11 · 31/10/2015 20:22

When you say you like it how do you pronounce it? I'd think Ai da is in Ada.
Elsa- I wouldn't actually let Frozen put you off. I don't think it matters but alternative Ailsa or Elsie.
I like Eva, I know a lot. Sophia is fine I prefer Sophie
