Hello

We have a son (2 in November) Harrison and our surname is Hammond. Our little girl is due 29 December and we wanted to stick to another H name and like the name Hollie and because it's around Christmas time but also love the name Lilly and can't decide.

What do you think?

xx

I like hollies with Harrison that is cute

3littlebadgers · 16/10/2015 19:26

I think Holly is lovelier, just because I know so many Little girls with the name Lily. There is one in each of my children's classes and two on my street alone. I also have a friend with the name lily, and her Grandparents refere to her as 'our Lil!' Grin Second thoughts please call her Lil.

helentheheron · 16/10/2015 20:51

Both are really nice names. I prefer Holly and Lily spellings personally. Holly Hammond has a great ring and so I would go with that.

DramaAlpaca · 16/10/2015 21:40

Both are nice, but I also prefer the Holly & Lily spellings.

reuset · 17/10/2015 02:14

Lily after the flower (like Langtry) was a C19 name and not used before. Lillie/Lilie/Lylie and vars also used long before C19 but as dims of Elizabeth. Don't like 'em though. Prefer plain old Lily and Holly.

MrsBungle · 17/10/2015 02:17

Holly. Lovely name. I dislike the spelling hollie.

ashesandfire · 17/10/2015 14:43

I like Holly and Lily (these spellings). I prefer Lily to Holly.

badtime · 18/10/2015 09:40

Huh, reuset, it was Lillie Langtry - it was a nickname for her real name, Emilie.

Lilly Hammond reminds me of Lillehammer in Norway. There is a Netflix show called Lilyhammer set there.

reuset · 18/10/2015 19:19

Huh, reuset, it was Lillie Langtry - it was a nickname for her real name, Emilie.

Huh, badtime Confused I know her real name. Lillie and other vars usually were dims so that fits of course with Emilie. She was also Lillie/Lily after the Jersey Lily (flower).

Paddletonio · 18/10/2015 19:25

I love holly (not Hollie) and lily is also lovely (not Lilly)

I am not so much a fan of the alliteration though so prefer lily Hammond to holly Hammond

dyouthinkhesaurus · 18/10/2015 19:32

Have you considered Daisee or Rowse?

AnemonesCloser · 18/10/2015 19:33
Hmm
Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 18/10/2015 19:38

There's no contest. It has to be Hollie, especially with her being due near to Christmas. Lily's are becoming ridiculously boring now. I'm tripping over them.

MrsCaecilius · 19/10/2015 15:11

Love Lily. Not so keen on Holly. And much as there are many, many ways to spell a name, I really far prefer Holly/Lily to Hollie/Lilly.

Call me dull, but that's my preference.

mrssmith79 · 19/10/2015 15:37

Love Hollie. Don't be swayed by the Holly-bores. Don't like Lilly as much. There's also Ivy? Not my cup of tea but goes well with your surname.

AliciaMayEmory · 19/10/2015 18:48

Love how you are a bore if you prefer the traditional spelling...

MayhemandMadness · 19/10/2015 18:54

I have a Hollie with that spelling born on 29th December, so a little biased! Grin

Bumbledumb · 22/10/2015 09:26

Lilly Hammond sounds like you named her after a ski resort in Norway.

BertrandRussell · 22/10/2015 09:33

What's your thinking with the spellings?

LatriceRoyale · 22/10/2015 20:33

I like Lilly. I wouldn't worry about others opinion on spelling. Some people will find something negative to say no matter what name you pick or which spelling you choose.

UptownFunk00 · 25/10/2015 11:48

I have a Hollie but she was born in April so no Christmas connections. I prefer the spelling which is strange as mostly don't like names that are considered 'twee' but I just find it beautiful and elegant.

I prefer Hollie to Lilly as there are so many Lilly's about, but they are both pretty names.

Don't let anyone tell you that you're spelling the name wrong. Unless Lily is spelt Lynioaiw and Holly is spelt Hyeanoier I think people are perfectly capeable of seeing they are a variant unless they are a little bit slow to the mark.

Congratulations on your winter baby :)

FoodPorn · 25/10/2015 12:17

I love Holly. It's my number 1 girl's name (not yet used as I've got 2 boys!)

PotteringAlong · 25/10/2015 12:23

Holly or Lily are nice, but not Hollie and Lilly

SophieFaye · 01/11/2015 13:30

Hollie Hammond suits Harrison Hammond the best!
