Have a Lily and thinking about Emily (which is actually DDs suggestion!). Are they too close though? Too much 'ily' going on??

Both lovely names but a bit too similar for me.

Floppy5885 · 11/10/2015 14:45

What about Emmeline

TillITookAnArrowToTheKnee · 11/10/2015 14:48

My friend is called Emma and one of her DSis is called Lily.

DramaAlpaca · 11/10/2015 14:59

Yes, I think they are too similar. As a pp said, Emmeline would be a good alternative, or how about Emilia?

Sophronia · 11/10/2015 15:31

Yes, a bit too similar. How about Emma or Emilia instead?

I can't see the resemblance between the names Lily and Emily, be different if it were Milly and Emily as they would both have Milly in their names.

I think they are too similar but like the suggestion of Emma instead.

I know two Emilys who actually go by Milly. So you could end up with DDs knows as Lily and Milly.

knows = known. Sorry.

too similar for me

juicynectarines · 11/10/2015 18:29

Don't think they're similar at all. Lily is often short for Elizabeth which is v different to Emily!

Brindler · 11/10/2015 18:34

Thanks for the replies. I think the Lily and milly suggestion has put the final nail in that coffin ha ha! Shall add the other suggestions to the list though!

I don't know any Lilys who are short for Elizabeth. Lilian is though to be a derivative of Elizabeth, and Lily can be a short form of Lilian, but Lily on it's own is usually after the flower. In any case why is that relevant? The OP's dd is called Lily, not Elizabeth.

I agree with others that think they are a bit too similar. I'd look for a name that doesn't end 'ily'. Emma being the most obvious.
