Love it or hate it?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Love but it's vair posh not sure I'd use it as beside ds's posho name we may be laughed at!

SmugairleRoin · 02/10/2015 08:31

Hate it, sorry!
Reminds me of otters or utterly, which then leads me on to Utterly Butterly.

Misnomer · 02/10/2015 08:35

I love it. I don't think it's 'too posh'. It's really sweet and has scope for the child to adopt a shoterned version as they grow, which I guess not everyone likes but for me that's a good thing.

Bellejournee · 02/10/2015 09:08

Love love love it!

mrsschu · 02/10/2015 09:12

It's one of these totally predictable names that MN loves. As soon as I see this name mentioned on here I know it's guaranteed to get rave reviews from Mumsnetters. Although it's apparently very popular on here I have never met one in real life and I live in London. It's not posh, it's pretentious (and probably trying to be posh) IMO.

goldglittershitter · 02/10/2015 09:18

I like it Smile . Don't find it posh or pretentious. Don't know any in RL but that has to be a good thing, it can't be too common. Well not in NW anyway. Go for it!

Sophronia · 02/10/2015 11:30

Don't like it at all.

TinyMonkey · 02/10/2015 12:48

I know an Ottilie, it's quite sweet. I also know a baby Ottoline, and prefer it to that.

celtictoast · 02/10/2015 13:25

I don't like it, sorry.

TheMarxistMinx · 02/10/2015 13:31

A name can not be posh or pretentious. The person who chooses it could be, or the person who carries the name may be, but a name...its just a name. I think it's very pretty.

rosieliveson1 · 02/10/2015 13:32

I know an Ottilie. It's quite pretty but not my favourite

Lunastarfish · 02/10/2015 15:19

Its lovely - use it!

My dd has a name which always comes up on the 'names only ever heard on mn' threads.

Minimaus · 02/10/2015 16:15

I like it and like it pronounced Oh-TEE-lee-eh, with the emphasis on the second syllable.

Ladypug · 02/10/2015 22:23

Thanks all :-)

I'm not keen. I know one and yes, the family is posh.

Pigeonpost · 02/10/2015 22:49

Love it. I know two, neither are posh.

twattersonsmythe · 03/10/2015 16:12

The most pretentious couple I know named their daughter Ottilie.

MrsSchadenfreude · 05/10/2015 00:20

I have one. It's a family name from the German side of my family. So neither posh nor pretentious. Hmm It was either that or Minna; Adelheid and Frieda were not in the running. Grin

BackInTheRealWorld · 05/10/2015 00:23

Never heard it before but I did straight away think ottilie-butterly

devoncreamtea · 05/10/2015 11:47

Love!

BertrandRussell · 05/10/2015 11:51

It's one of those names that lovely on a baby and a child, but would sound a bit odd on an adult woman. And she'll be an adult woman for much longer than she'll be a child.......

BertrandRussell · 05/10/2015 11:55

"I like it and like it pronounced Oh-TEE-lee-eh, with the emphasis on the second syllable."

But that's not how it's pronounced. That's like saying you like the name Theodora but pronounced The-OD-ora.

bialystockandbloom · 05/10/2015 12:02

Love it, it's one of dd's middle names Smile

MrsSchadenfreude · 08/10/2015 20:08

Bertrand, that is the German pronunciation. But agree it would be pretentious if you had no claims to German-ness!

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 10/10/2015 20:56

It's like Amelie in that it sounds lovely with a French accent but shit in an English one
