Currently expecting DC three. Already have a DD and DS so have used our favourite names for them. We probably won't find out the sex of this baby so have to come up with boys and girls name. There just don't seem to be many we both like. Would love to hear the mumsnet wisdom on the following names.

Girls

Alexandra (nn Lexie)
Jennifer
Rebecca

Boys

Ephraim ( have always loved the name but wasn't brave enough to give it to DS1)
Edward

Any other suggestions much appreciated.

I've not heard of Ephraim before. Its nice enough, only downside I can see is potential nn Effie which sounds v girly but of course nns/teasing can never really be predicted.

Edward is lovely, esp with nn Teddy.

For a girl my favourite is Rebecca, then Jennifer.

SmugairleRoin · 27/09/2015 17:28

My fave for a girl is Jennifer, then Rebecca. Bit meh on Alexandra.

I really like Edward, Ephraim not nearly so much.

wigglesrock · 27/09/2015 18:37

I like both your boys names. Rebecca I love, Jennifer is nice, but just nice. Alexandra I'm not fussed on, I don't like Alex or Lexie and I just find Alexandra a bit dull.

MrsHathaway · 27/09/2015 18:38

My DC3 is Edward. I can't bear Ephraim, sorry.

Jennifer and Rebecca feel a bit dated to me - nothing wrong with them but there were six of each at school with me, sort of thing. How do you feel about Jenny and Becky?

I like Alexandra but not Lexie.

Sorry, not much help.

SoftBlocks · 27/09/2015 18:39

Alexandra.
Edward.

Notrobusta · 27/09/2015 20:03

Not overly keen on Becky or jenny as nicknames. Just wish I loved one of the names as much as my DD. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. The down side to Ephraim would be the need for him to spell his name all the time. However is Edward too popular?

Edwin?

Burnet · 27/09/2015 20:10

What are your other DC called?

Notrobusta · 27/09/2015 20:11

Olivia and Stephen

I don't like Alexandra, but I adore Lexie!

Are you able to tell us your DC's names so we can try to find something that goes well with them?

5BlueHydrangea · 27/09/2015 20:13

I think Rebecca or Edward go well with those names.

I have a Rebecca so biased but.. She goes by Rebecca, Becky, Becx...

MuttonCadet · 27/09/2015 20:15

I'd go with Alexandra or Edward with those names.

Vernonon · 27/09/2015 20:15

I love your girls names. Like Edward

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf · 27/09/2015 20:18

"Not over keen on Jenny or Becky as nns". In that case then, that is your mind made up for you to use Alexandra " Lexie". As you can't be saying to her, your names Jennifer not Jenny it's her name she can use what name she likes. Everyone is entitled to a name and a preferred name.
Keep in mind also Alexandra might want to be known as Alex.

Edward nn
Eddie
Ned
Ted

lljkk · 27/09/2015 20:35

It's funny, I have a strong aversion to Edward. But I adore Edgar.

Harriet, Helena, Margarite come to mind.

littlepinkgiraffe · 27/09/2015 20:46

We liked the nn Lexi but wanted a slightly fuller name so chose Alexa.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/09/2015 21:14

Jennifer
Edward
Both v nice.

ashesandfire · 27/09/2015 22:05

I love Alexandra but don't like Lexie, I would use Sasha or Alex as a nn. I love Rebecca but hate the inevitable nns which puts me off. Jennifer is dated to me and Jenny is inevitable.
I like Edward. Not Ephraim
Olivia, Stephen and
Isobel
Evelyn
Imogen
Beatrice
Charlotte
Eliza/beth
Madeleine
Hannah
Sophie
Catherine
Harriet
Louisa
Penelope
Rosanna

Henry
Nathaniel
James
Matthew
David
Michael
Timothy
Thomas

From your girls list Alexandra is the best. Rebecca and Jennifer sound very 80's and dated. From your boys list I like both names. Edward nn Ted (not Teddy, so bored of it) is nice. I know a 5 year old Ephraim who is a lovely boy so I think that's why I like the name! I would never use it myself though...it's a bit too out there for me.

CakeRattleandRoll · 28/09/2015 01:10

Your girl's names are all nice. My favourite is Jennifer, but I like nn Jenny, which I do think is inevitable.

Love Edward - I have one. Is it too popular? That depends on what you consider 'too popular'! It's not as popular as Olivia, for example. It has the advantage of several nns, so if yours is known as Ed, he will be easily distinguished from any Edwards with nn Ted/Ned/etc.

AdorabeezleWinterpop · 28/09/2015 19:38

I have a 5 year old Jennifer. It is a gorgeous name. She is the only one in her year but there is a 10 year old Jenny higher up the school. No avoiding the nn Jenny I think, but I love it!

SilverOldie2 · 29/09/2015 14:20

Alexandra and Edward are lovely

Sophronia · 30/09/2015 16:46

Jennifer is my favourite.

Shesinfashion · 03/10/2015 10:57

Shortlists are meant to be short. That said, I don't like any of the names.
