Eli and Aphra. Ttc will commence shortly (sorry tmi) I have a few ideas for a girl but way too many for a boy!

Please help me narrow the, down! My taste tends to be a bit marmite. I want something quirky but not batshit crazy! Preference would be not to start with an A or E or end in and I or A though you will see I break my own rules.

Asa
Ezra
Rex
Jude
Jedediah (nn Jed or Jedi)
Josiah
Jonah
Ace
Kit
Wilder
Sonny
Cassius (love)

I've never heard Cassius pronounced Cash-us Confused.

squoosh · 23/09/2015 10:58

I think Cash-us would be the American pronunciation.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 23/09/2015 11:03

OK, thank you. That's something I've learnt today Grin.

mrstweefromtweesville · 23/09/2015 11:12

Asa or Jonah and I really like the names of your older children. Have the mrstwee award for good-naming.

M4blues · 23/09/2015 12:55

I have a Kit. He is Christopher on the BC but has only ever been known as, Kit. He is the youngest of my boys but it's a name I'd loved for years although dh took convincing. Everyone who meets him comments on how cool it is.

JanuaryJuniper · 23/09/2015 14:17

Proudly takes award from mrstwee shines and places on mantle Grin

squoosh No, an American would not pronounce Cassius as Cashus. They would pronounce it Cass-i-us.

squoosh · 23/09/2015 15:11

Some Americans use the cash-us pronunciation

Wearyheadedlady · 23/09/2015 15:32

No, only idiots use that prononciation.

I'm in the US and have been here for 30+ years.

squoosh · 23/09/2015 15:35

But clearly some Americans, idiots or not, do use that pronunciation.

momb · 23/09/2015 15:40

Noah

from your list I'd go with redtoothbrush's logic.

SenecaFalls · 23/09/2015 23:08

Well, for one thing, Americans are not highly likely to name a child Cassius. The only Cassius I have ever known of is Cassius Clay (now Muhammed Ali). That was most definitely Cash-us and the name is heavily associated with him so I think that when most Americans see the name, that is how they would pronounce it.

JanuaryJuniper · 26/09/2015 20:36

We are starting to think that Cassius could be the one. Grin

Rex Jude and kit are all on my shortlist for dc3 (if it's a boy) so we must have similar taste! Can i ask your girls names for inspiration?

HeteronormativeHaybales · 26/09/2015 21:43

I'm afraid I don't like any of your list. Cariadisnaehappy has some lovely suggestions.

How about Isaac? Or David? Lovely name, but you don't hear of many little Davids these days.

BlueChampagne · 26/09/2015 21:49

Conrad or Vashti

BorisJohnsonsHair · 26/09/2015 21:54

Rex or Jonah.

How about John? I don't know any baby Johns and I think it's a great name. Or Hector.

JanuaryJuniper · 26/09/2015 23:47

zippyswife my girls list is....

Juno
Juniper
Fleur
Greta
Flora
Astrid
Nina
Tessa
Nell
Daphne
Willa
Rumer
Delphi

Ha! Yes we definitely have an overlap! I have Juno tessa Nina and greta on my list!

Greta was my favourite had ds 1&2 been girls but I hear now it's becoming popular? Not sure how true that is.

Asa - great. I like it with the other names.
Ezra - same -- very nice with the other names.
Rex -- dislike. Dog name.
Jude - like it a lot, goes well with the other names.
Jedediah (nn Jed or Jedi) -- ott obscure
Josiah -- like it a lot, goes well with the other names.
Jonah -- same, goes well with the others
Ace -- terrible
Kit -- nice but doesn't fit at all with the others
Wilder -- no
Sonny -- nonononono
Cassius (love) -- NOOOOO

I would pick one from
Asa
Ezra
Jude
Josiah
Jonah

From PPs' suggestions, I love Isaac, Nathaniel and Phineas.

Other suggestions:
Owen
Ferdia (pr Fur-dee-a) an Irish name from an old saga
Linus
Tobias
Leo
Atticus
Thaddeus
Ivan or Ivo

Astralabe · 30/09/2015 20:48

Rex

autumnmoon · 30/09/2015 22:23

My favourites from your list are:

Rex
Jude
Josiah
Kit
Sonny

I think Rex sounds best with your other names for some reason..... Josiah also good.
