Too samey??

We have a DD Isadora (nn Dora) and are due no.2 next month. For a girl we're set but for a boy... We're both in love with Theodore nn Teddy and thought we were decided. But for whatever reason it hadn't clicked how similar it was to Isadora (I blame pregnancy in general) and now I can't get out of my head that Isadora and Theodore are so samey, would it just sound weird? I'm so torn because we love Theodore so much and can't even begin to think of a new boy name that I like as much. All I can think is at least they'll primarily be Dora and Teddy? Thoughts??

I guess that Isadora and Theodore do sound quite similar. But Dora and Teddy sound very different.

I think if you really love Theodore, you should stick with it.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 18/09/2015 21:57

I love Dora, beautiful.

Edward with Teddy?

Madamnit · 18/09/2015 21:58

Teddy is a lovely nn for Edward. Isadora & Edward sounds great!

MaudeTheMopLady · 18/09/2015 22:03

I don't think it's a problem at all! So if you love it - go for it.

However that said, I prefer Edward to theodore and think it goes perfectly with Dora.

Comingroundthemountain · 18/09/2015 22:41

Or Theo?

Sophronia · 18/09/2015 23:08

I think Isadora and Theodore are too close. You could use Edward, Edmund, Edwin or Edgar nn Teddy instead?

Sophronia · 18/09/2015 23:12

Might be a bit of a stretch but you could also have Thaddeus nn Teddy?

mammabear4 · 19/09/2015 11:29

Thanks guys. I do love Edward but one of my close friends has a little boy called Edward but he gets Ed! I'm just imagining introducing my two children - "this is Isadora and Theodore" - it doesn't quite sound right to me! Am I overthinking? Hormones are haywire and we were so set on Theodore. Maybe it'll be a girl and then we'll have no name worries!

I don't think you're overthinking, I think they're too similar.

I don't think it matters if your friend has an Edward (many people do), and if your DS will be known as Teddy (regardless of whether he is Edward or Theodore) your friend wont have an issue with it.

Saltedcaramel4 · 19/09/2015 11:44

I think its fine if you mainly use nick names

Whoknewitcouldbeso · 19/09/2015 11:47

I think they are too similar too, sorry.

DepecheNO · 19/09/2015 13:16

They are similar, and if it were me I would probably use Edward, Edmund or Thaddeus to get to Teddy. All the same, don't let what other people think affect your choices. Isadora and Theodore aren't the same name, and don't share any common nicknames - you'll get Izzy and Theo as well as Dora and Teddy.

mammabear4 · 19/09/2015 17:50

Argh. Lots to think about now ??

That was supposed to be a Confused I don't know why it came out as question marks!

DontDrinkandFacebook · 19/09/2015 17:57

Yes, totally daft. If you call him Theo and her Dora you have Theodora. Confused

DontDrinkandFacebook · 19/09/2015 17:57

It will be like Brangelina Grin

Dixiebell · 23/09/2015 16:39

Too close, it'd be a bit strange I think. Why not just Teddy or Ted? (I have a Ted).

Mclaren37 · 23/09/2015 20:33

Also agree you should just call him Teddy! Fantastic boy name and Ted is great as an adult. Teddy and Dora are perfect!

mrsschu · 23/09/2015 22:00

Much too similar. Go with Edward nn Ted (sooooooo much nicer than Teddy IMO).

mathanxiety · 27/09/2015 06:57

I love Edmund and Thaddeus. You could get Ted or Teddy out of either one.
