Jude for a girl

It would be just Jude on the bc. Do you think a girl would hate it when older? Would be constantly getting mixed up as a boy?

Siblings would be Eli and Aphra. I also like it for a boy!

I really like it for both genders, but be aware that she may be mistaken for Judy as the full name.

Helpmeoutofthemaze · 31/08/2015 12:46

It's a nice name, but the fact you've had to write "for a girl" in the thread title says it all.

Some girls would like it, some wouldn't. I personally know of 2 male Judes so it sounds odd to me on a girl.

Eminybob · 31/08/2015 12:49

The first Jude I ever heard of was Jude from Hollyoaks (a long long time ago).

So when Jude Law materialised I wondered why he had a girls name.

That said, now I prefer it as a boys name.

nhkamptz · 31/08/2015 13:05

I can't get on board with this for a girl.

BlueBananas · 31/08/2015 13:09

The only Jude I know is a girl, so it doesn't sit right on a boy for me

JanuaryJuniper · 31/08/2015 13:15

I guess it depends on previous associations! I think it is a bit quirky for a girl which I like!

Probably yes. You could still use it though

High top 100 name for boys. Probably outside top 1000 for girls, as a given name, with just a smattering used, more likely to be a nick name for Judith.

tictactoad · 31/08/2015 13:28

Years back I knew a Judith who insisted on Jude. Maybe you could consider that or Judy to give her the choice later on?

CruCru · 31/08/2015 14:25

I would assume her full name was Judith.

SmugairleRoin · 31/08/2015 14:31

I'd assume it was a nn for Judy or Judith.

As a name on its own, I don't like it. Not on a boy and especially not on a girl.

PotteringAlong · 31/08/2015 14:35

I know a Judith called Jude in her mid 30's and a 3 year old boy Jude. I like it.

VenusRising · 31/08/2015 14:38

Hey Jude!

Patron saint of hopeless causes eh? Makes sense for Jude Law!

Short for Judith is ok I guess.

SoupDragon · 31/08/2015 14:39

I think she will either be assumed to be a boy or a Judy/Judith. she will probably get quite bored with explaining time and time again.

horsewalksintoabar · 31/08/2015 14:39

Sorry OP. It doesn't work really.

Sophronia · 31/08/2015 16:43

The only Jude I know is female, but in her case it is short for Judith.

Colyngbourne · 31/08/2015 17:45

I like it a lot but I would go with Judy or Judith as the full name and Jude as a short nickname.

Daphnedolittle · 31/08/2015 18:01

I don't like this. I'd hate to have a name that everyone assumed was a boy, and if people assume it's short for Judith that's even worse.

DontKillMyVibe · 31/08/2015 18:02

I know 2 Jude's and they are both females in their 30s who are called Judith. I'd assume it was a nickname/shortened version of Judith

NobodyLivesHere · 31/08/2015 18:08

i like it for a girl, i'm a big fan of 'boys' names for girls in general

zippyswife · 31/08/2015 18:08

Love it. It's on my shortlist for both genders. I love it for a girl. My first memory of the name was a female nurse Jude in casualty about 20 years ago. I thought she was so cool and have loved the name since.

FlyDragonfly1 · 01/09/2015 10:38

I have a male Jude, so I'll always think of it as a boy's name.

I much prefer Judith nn Jude for a girl.
