Thoughts on Robert/Robbie

Dp has suggested the name Robert for potential future ds. I imagine he'd probably be Robbie at primary school, then Rob when older (Bobby/Bert not really our style, though fine if he chooses that later of course).

What are your initial thoughts on hearing these names? Would you have any pre-conceived ideas about a little Robbie or his family? Ideally I'd love to hear what you think and why, rather than just yay or nay iyswim.

Thanks all!

I have a Ronnie so I can't really criticize Robbie! I know a few people think it's a bit chavvy/thuggy but they are the minority. You can't control nicknames really. Robert is a very classic name, wouldn't have any weird notions about a Robbie. Have to say though, my eldest knows a Robert who is Robbie, but my younger children know Roberts who are Bobby/Bob, so the shortening seems to have changed IME. All fine, it's a lovely name.

Ds is Robert. Never gets called anything else. I love it.
