My friend's put a fb post up showing that this is to be her DD's name when it's born next year. It's unusual and I'm not sure how to pronounce it.

A-ny-a or A-nay-a

I think....

WishITookLifeSeriously · 25/08/2015 22:34

Uh-nay-uh (northern, I say uh rather than ah)

WishITookLifeSeriously · 25/08/2015 22:35

No, I'm being stupid. I'd say A-nay-a

DramaAlpaca · 25/08/2015 22:36

An-eye-a, I think.

SWFARMER · 25/08/2015 22:42

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 25/08/2015 22:49

An-I-ah.

Gosh I find it odd when people announce the future names of bumps.

mayaknew · 25/08/2015 22:50

Me too Libraries what if when she's born she looks nothing like an Anaiya and they change their mindsConfusedConfused

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 25/08/2015 22:52

What if she comes out male? I know of a Milly who it turned out definitely wasn't!

MrsLeighHalfpenny · 25/08/2015 22:52

An-ay-ee-a

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 25/08/2015 22:53

Also birth isn't til next year. What if you just change your mind?

whatdoIget · 25/08/2015 22:55

An I a

JeffsanArsehole · 25/08/2015 22:56

I wouldn't say it. It's not a word. I'd have to ask how they wanted me to pronounce that random collection of letters.

Shinyshoes2 · 25/08/2015 23:02

An eye ah

Shinyshoes2 · 25/08/2015 23:02

Or rather
An eye ya

GrouchyKiwi · 25/08/2015 23:11

A-nai-a.

I think that's a character from a fairly long series of fantasy books. If so, there's aa glossary of name pronunciations at the back. Should be in book 2 or 3. ;)

CharleyDavidson · 25/08/2015 23:15

They've bought personalised items already for the baby so I hope it does come out as a girl. :)

Had a quick google - Nadine Cole's daughter is an Anaiya.

I'd go with A - nay - ah.

But I think they want it pronounced ay - nay - ah.

Each to their own.

An-ay-er

BumpAndGrind · 26/08/2015 01:30

Anya

LariyahSpen · 26/08/2015 02:57

My daughter is an Inayah we say in-iy-ah so I would say it how it's spelt to be on the safe side an-iy-ah Grin

littlejohnnydory · 26/08/2015 09:36

I know an Anaiya. A-nay-a. I like it but gets confused with Anya a lot.

BathshebaEvedene · 26/08/2015 20:53

I teach one of these (although she adds an 'h' to the end and she pronounces it An-eye-a.

CordeliaFrost · 28/08/2015 20:11

It is ah-nay-ah, and is more commonly found as Anaya, and traditionally is a Jewish boy's name (although now used for both genders).
