As long as you are going for a seventies vibe and are going to insist on a Kevin Keegan hair do, I think it's great. Really.
If you aren't Asian (although I am laughing a leetle bit at Soupy in knots) I would just go for the anglicized spelling - otherwise it's a bit 'look at me being all exotic' - misguided cultural appropriation is a bit weird and unthinkingly Othering while trying to be approving... Very messy.

ToesInTheSand · 23/08/2015 17:58

I absolutely ADORE it. Super cool.
Only minor downside I can see is Bo as a nickmame, = B.O. Body Odour.

Pipbin · 23/08/2015 18:01

...and Doyle?

My first though too.

JakeyBurd · 23/08/2015 19:23

Ah, just call him Bodie and be done with it! There aren't enough little Bodies running around, in my opinion, and he won't need a perm because that was Doyle.

PermetsTu · 23/08/2015 19:26

I love it. Great name. I really liked it but dismissed it when pg with ds as I was a bit worried it sounded slightly surnamey and I don't really like surname type names as a rule.

Strokethefurrywall · 23/08/2015 19:27

Bodhi is a great name, know a couple of kids and it really suits them! Love it!

scatterthenuns · 23/08/2015 20:49

I like it, but think it works much better in America than it does in the UK.

lorelei9 · 23/08/2015 21:30

notinkansasanymoretoto "If you aren't Asian I would just go for the anglicized spelling - otherwise it's a bit 'look at me being all exotic' - misguided cultural appropriation is a bit weird and un"thinkingly Othering while trying to be approving... Very messy."

I think it's a real shame this stuff has become so messy. I hadn't even heard of cultural appropriation till recently. I have a Bodhi on the Indian side of my family. If a non-Indian person used that name and spelling, my family wouldn't be fretting over "cultural appropriation".

That's like saying if a white British friend named their child after me, with my spelling, I should be cross because they are white British and I'm not and therefore they shouldn't have the spelling of my name.... is this really where we are now? how sad.

OP - you like Bodhi, you choose Bodhi in my view.

Cookie122 · 23/08/2015 23:38

notinkansasanymoretoto - There is only one way to spell it imo. Why would I not use a name because the spelling is considered asian?

Love it ????????

Theimpossiblegirl · 23/08/2015 23:58

Patrick Swayze in Point Break = coolest name ever. If I'd had a boy he would have been a Bodhi. Please use it.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 24/08/2015 00:10

The actresses Megan Fox and Jenna Elfman each have a child called this I think?

I quite like it, but I do think hippie / surfer etc.

Gileswithachainsaw · 24/08/2015 00:15

Love it!!!

MamaLazarou · 24/08/2015 08:35

Truly awful, IMO. One of the worst suggestions I have seen on here.

lorelei9 · 24/08/2015 09:48

cookie122 "Why would I not use a name because the spelling is considered asian?"

thank you!

fairyfeatures · 24/08/2015 14:57

Lovely! I really like it. And fwiw, I would prounounce it 'Bow-dee' upon reading it Smile

fairyfeatures · 24/08/2015 14:58

Or even pronounce...

FreckledLeopard · 24/08/2015 15:11

I love it. Not sure I'd be brave enough to use it if I had a DS but it's such a cool name. Only issue would be if the child wasn't sufficiently cool/surfer like to carry it off!

"Bodhi, this is your fucking wake-up call man. I am an F, B, I, Agent!"

Grin
mrstweefromtweesville · 25/08/2015 15:54

oh, please. what an embarrassment.

lorelei9 · 25/08/2015 16:14

mrstwee - why?

Gileswithachainsaw · 25/08/2015 16:34

bodhi was the name of a dog I saw on a vet programme.

fwiw the dog was so lovely and there are worse people to share names with than a gorgeous friendly loving playful dog who's family adored him.

not sure why twee thinks it's embarrassing. far better than all the Doris and mables that get rave reviews on other name threads.

I'd so use it

Gileswithachainsaw · 25/08/2015 16:38

But then I share my name with many a pet so.... Grin

kalidasa · 25/08/2015 16:38

I like it, though I would assume you were Asian and/or quite devout Buddhists. I didn't make the surfer/Point Break connection at all. But judging from this thread you'd have to be OK with about an 80/20 split between the surfer/Buddhist assumptions!

lorelei9 · 25/08/2015 16:41

does nobody just choose names because they like them? Why does it matter where they come from?
