Regan: It's my friend's dog's name and also the surname of another family friend. So I just can't take it seriously as a girl's first name. Sorry.

NotAllThoseWhoWanderAreLost · 18/08/2015 21:41

I'm early 30s and my first thought when I hear that name is 'as in Ronald?', closely followed by 'evil Shakespeare woman' and then 'scary puking Exorcist girl'... Which is a shame as I actually think it's quite a nice name, just really bad associations!

DramaAlpaca · 18/08/2015 21:43

I've only met one Reagan. She's from a Republican family in Texas. Her sisters have presidenty names too.

Alisvolatpropiis · 19/08/2015 00:50

I'd think King Lear.

I'd also think "what is with the unnecessary A?"

It's ree-gun, surely?

hashtagwhatever · 19/08/2015 01:35

Because it isn't Reegun that's a completely different name.

I have a ds named Malachy and if I had a penny for every time somebody said "oh Malachy, like malachi" ( which no they are different names ) well I'd be rich.

Doublebubblebubble · 19/08/2015 14:14

My DD is Raegan (Ray-fan) -I fudging love it and my DD loves it too - having said that It got a mixed reaction when I said what her name would be irl and from a lot of the panel here lol x if you like it go for it xxx

Dadado · 19/08/2015 20:37

I find the whole irish surname as a first name thing v strange. And the constant correction of pronounciation would put me off.

TidyDancer · 20/08/2015 14:12

Really really don't like it. It's up there with Taylor/Cole/Parker for me. Surnames as first names. To me they are just really tacky.

Not to mention the exorcist (even if you don't make the connection, many people will) and the president.

cerigrafu · 20/08/2015 14:14

evil sister in King Lear
American president
Irish surname.

Please don't !!

lostluggage · 20/08/2015 14:37

If you don't mind the misspellings, comments from other adults about the Exorcist and mispronounciation then why not? Serial killer names are considered ok - Chuck (Chucky),Mike (Michael Meyers), Freddie (Freddie Kreuger), Jack (Jack Torrance) so the Exorcist connection wouldn't stop me.(President Reagan connection would though)

Glindathegoodwitch · 20/08/2015 16:05

Lucky for me, things that bother other people but don't bother me are water off a duck's back :)

However, all you exorcist fans/ president dislikers will be happy to hear DH is not keen for now

Regan will be a shit at school.

Reagan will be pronounced Regan, but behave slightly better.

Wolpertinger · 20/08/2015 16:20

The Exorcist is a classic film so no chance of it disappearing any time soon. Bit like King Lear hasn't disappeared either.

Good call by your DH Grin

Glindathegoodwitch · 20/08/2015 16:22

Regan will be shit at school

Where do people dream this shit up?? Hilarious.

Marcipex · 20/08/2015 16:36

I know a female Reagan, pronounced Ray gun.
It's awful, sorry.

PenelopePitstops · 20/08/2015 17:02

Glinda I have based my opinion on the Regans I have taught, 4 in total.

mrstweefromtweesville · 21/08/2015 20:31

DD narrowly escaped being called Ragan/Regan, so I'm not going to object. MNers, you're improving. You've had a girl's name and a boy's name from my 1980s list, this week.

cocobean2805 · 29/08/2015 14:35

I know a Regan (boy). We call him Reg (as in Reginald). He's a delight.I also know of a girl Reagan. Who gets called Reggie, Rea, and Ganny Confused she is equally lovely.

Junosmum · 31/08/2015 01:13

Unisex but I did instantly think girl from the exorcist. I like it for a girl.
