Jed... Just Jed

I am not a fan of popular names, but don't want something 'way-out' there either. However, I'm worried that it's too reminiscent of those lunatics, Jedward. What are your thoughts?

Boys names are the hardest.

Others currently on the list are Hal, Aled and Howell.

If this baby is a boy, I fear it will be nameless.

I quite like it especially with the dd spelling

CointreauVersial · 16/08/2015 23:24

DS has a friend called Jed. Lovely name, really suits him.

But I like Jared even more.

EmmaWoodlouse · 16/08/2015 23:30

DS1 knew a Jed who was both very cool and very intelligent, so I have quite good associations for it. I think it was his full name as his brothers had that sort of short, punchy names too.

Hellionandfriends · 16/08/2015 23:55

Great! There's also Jobe

Scarletbanner · 17/08/2015 00:04

Another West Wing fan here. It's Josiah EDward Bartlett, hence Jed.

I like it.

Marcipex · 17/08/2015 09:18

If you spell it Ged, is it pronounced the same?

Eminybob · 17/08/2015 20:11

Yes, I know a Ged, short for Gerard, pronounced Jed.

silverglitterpisser · 17/08/2015 20:17

I know a Ged, he's that kid that always has a runny nose n grubby face! It puts me off, sorry. Love Jared tho Smile

JanuaryJuniper · 18/08/2015 22:53

Love it! Going to put it on my list.

SWFARMER · 18/08/2015 22:54

I love jed

switchitoff · 19/08/2015 16:22

I wouldn't think of Jedward, no. I like Jed as a nn, but think you need a full name too. (Edward, Josiah, Jeremy, Jahred)

The Jediah we know gets Jedi for short!

happymummyone · 19/08/2015 16:31

I really really like it. It's cool but not too try hard. I can only imagine a boy named Jed would grow up to be cool. Good choice!

Branleuse · 19/08/2015 16:34

I have a Nephew called Jed. I think its a good name

NKfell · 21/08/2015 14:38

I know a Jed but his full name is Gerard too.

diddl · 21/08/2015 15:07

I really like it.

mrstweefromtweesville · 21/08/2015 15:10

Jed, no. Clampett.

Jared, definitely yes. This was my 'boy's' name, had I had a son.

AnotherTimeMaybe · 21/08/2015 15:12

Have you thought of Jayden?

Strikeuptheband · 21/08/2015 15:16

You have just reminded me of a Jed who was the 'love interest' in a teen novel I read as a youngster. So a yes from me ?.

YouSmellLikeDogBuns · 21/08/2015 15:45

It reminds me of Jed Maxwell from I'm Alan Partridge but I've taught a couple of Jeds, all lovely and I never made that association when I met the person themselves, iykwim. I say go for it!

twinjocks · 21/08/2015 16:12

I say go for it! My Jed is 13 now. A few years ago, when those unmentionable twins were having their 5 minutes, a few people tried to call him that, but he used to say "That's not my name, my name is Jed" and that was that. In fact, most people tend to go the Star Wars route for nicknames and call him Jedi - he's fine with that.

KaraokeQueenOfTheNorth · 21/08/2015 18:56

I LOVE Jed. if DD had been a boy she would have been Jared, shortened to Jed :) awesome name. Love love love

NobodyLivesHere · 22/08/2015 01:55

I love it. I knew a Jed (Just Jed) and he was awesome. and hot. lol

Babylove2015 · 23/08/2015 22:46

Reminds me of the Beverly Hillbillies. There was Jed and Elly May etc... Sounds too country bumpkin.
