I have a friend called Talia (it's actually her birthday today). Lovely person, lovely name Smile

Enb76 · 05/08/2015 10:43

I know the name but spelt Thalia (still pronounced Talia as in Nathalia). The spelling 'th' is probably more middle class if you're worried about that sort of thing. I think it's a very pretty sound for a girls name.

Sophronia · 05/08/2015 11:19

I prefer it spelled Thalia (but pronounced the same as Talia), but Talia is nice too.

I have a baby Talia :) I wish we had used the Thalia spelling though

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 05/08/2015 12:18

Oh I think it's pretty.
But stick with the spelling Talia rather that Thalia.

Topsy34 · 05/08/2015 12:27

I prefer Talia to Thalia. I also think Thalitha is lovely

barbecue · 05/08/2015 12:56

It's a lovely name.

MamaLazarou · 05/08/2015 13:05

It's lovely.

CruCru · 05/08/2015 13:14

I like it but would spell it Thalia.

Fibbertigibbet · 05/08/2015 13:27

Another vote for Thalia, but it's a beautiful name!

Duckdeamon · 05/08/2015 13:29

I know a few Thalia's through work, it's a good-sounding name for clever and "serious" jobs IMO!

Twolefttoes · 05/08/2015 13:36

Beautiful name, not heard often but not too unusual either. Perfect.

CarrotVan · 05/08/2015 13:40

I know a Thalia who goes by Tilly. It's a nice name

NotAQueef · 05/08/2015 13:43

Love it. Was on my shortlist for DD but dp vetoed ????it just sounds so nice to the ear.

Christelle2207 · 05/08/2015 13:59

I know a Thalija- think it's horrid!
Talia/Thalia much nicer

LadylikeCough · 05/08/2015 14:29

Talia is Hebrew, Thalia is Greek.

I think Talia Brown sounds great. Simple but interesting.

I also like Thalia, but the pronunciation is slightly debatable, which is a PITA if you're having to correct it all the time anyway. It's not inarguably a hard T, like Thomas; I've also heard it as Tha-leah and Tha-liah (soft Th). Obviously you pick one and stick with it, but it must get bloody annoying when people explain you're pronouncing your own name wrong.*

[*just read Caitlin Moran complaining about this.]

I like Talia - but that's because I know one and she is lovely.

I also prefer the spelling that way rather than with an h.

Quasilulu · 05/08/2015 16:23

Very pretty. The Talia spelling doesn't look as clunky.

Oddpet · 05/08/2015 16:40

Love it! It was on our shortlist for DD2 (so was Zara funnily enough!). I prefer the Talia spelling myself as I think it's more likely to be spelt correctly, as I've come across a few different placements of the 'h'. Another friend had her DD a few days before DD2 arrived and named her Tahlia. So I was glad we'd already decided on a different name for our baby!

oneinaBILLIEon · 12/03/2018 15:12

I love the name Talia and definitely prefer it spelt Talia not Thalia. In my opinion it looks prettier spelt that way and it easier to pronounce correctly.

SuperBeagle · 12/03/2018 20:18

Agree with a PP that Talia is Hebrew while Thalia is Greek. The pronunciation of Talia is more straightforward while the pronunciation of Thalia is contentious. Thalia in Greek myth is "tha-lee-ah", not "tah-lee-ah".

I like Talia, and would spell it this way for simplicity.

Baby Talia would be two by now!

Smoliver · 13/03/2018 21:51

I've just discovered this name recently. I think it's gorgeous.

MikeUniformMike · 13/03/2018 21:52

Talia spelling is nicer.
