Adeline? Fable? Xanthe? Any other name in the world? We are stuck!

36 weeks with DC2, a girl. And we are totally stuck on a name. We have a long short list but none of them seem quite right.
Criteria are that is fairly unusual (DS's name is in the top 400 I think), definitely nothing in the top 100, has options for nicknames and works well with a two syllable surname beginning with P (think Palmer but not quite!). We had wanted to avoid R names as this is what DS's name starts with but to be honest, that isn't the be all and end all! This is our current agreed maybe list, go wild with your thoughts on each name, I can take it!

Adeline
Juno
Aderyn
Xanthe
Fable
Zosia
Dora
Bridget
Esmeralda
Delilah
Penny (although I think the initials PP may not be great!)

Names I love that DH isn't sure about (to give you an idea of things I like for consideration):

Cressida
Serafina
Isadora
Aurora
Marigold
Zelda

We also like the shortenings Tippi, Addie, Fin, Toby, Tovey, Sephy and Dorrie but obviously we wouldn't pick a name we hated just to get to these!

Any other suggestions welcome and positively encouraged!

I haven't seen Zosia suggested on her before but recognise it as I need of the actors from Girls I think? Its a great name, anyhow. Really like it.

Not keen on Fable at all, and Bridget sounds a bit dull with your surname.

No strong opinions on the rest!

helentheheron · 24/07/2015 09:33

Her = here, of course

PomPomPingPong · 24/07/2015 09:36

Anusia

honeysucklejasmine · 24/07/2015 09:39

Zosia is Polish for Sophie I think. From your list, I like Delilah and Bridget.

Would also suggest Belinda.

Dontloookbackinanger · 24/07/2015 09:47

Serena
Xania
Adelaide
Josephine

polkadotdelight · 24/07/2015 09:48

I love Fable but I used to read a blog called Girlsgonechild. She has Archer, Fable, Boheme and Reverie. I loved all her name choices.

Flingingmelon · 24/07/2015 09:57

Love Xanthe. My DS's initial is X and it makes me grin whenever I write X xxx on a card. But I am a child myself Smile

CakeRattleandRoll · 24/07/2015 10:18

Love Xanthe and Zosia. Like Bridget too. And yours is the only list (besides mine) that I have ever seen with Aderyn! You have lots of good choices already, but if you want a few more:

Arianwen
Isolde
Odette
Larissa
Miranda
Naomi
Joanna
Guinevere
Nikita
Anita
Genevieve
Annalise

motherofallhangovers · 24/07/2015 10:22

Is Zosia pronounced Zosh-a?

Just asking as I met an Eastern European girl called Sophia with the NN Zosha, although I have no idea how she spelled it.

Lovely sounding name anyway :)

motherofallhangovers · 24/07/2015 10:22

Ramona

Laquila · 24/07/2015 10:26

Persephone? Aveling?

From your list I think my favourite is Adeline.

FiftyShadesOfSporn · 24/07/2015 10:33

Allegra

Illaria

Lalage (La-la-gee)

Laquila · 24/07/2015 10:34

Illaria is lovely

ShadowFire · 24/07/2015 10:37

Fable doesn't feel like a name to me. It makes me think of myths and legends and Aesop's Fables, rather than people.
Not keen on Delilah because of the Samson and Delilah connection.
I don't know how you'd pronounce Zosia.
Adeline is pretty.

jennyjenny11 · 24/07/2015 11:11

Thank you for all the feedback and suggestions!

Fable is a funny one, I love the sound and the meaning and the fact that it could shorten to Fay (or even Belle I suppose) should she wish but something maybe isn't quite right!

Zosia is indeed pronounced Zosha. I love the sounds and the meaning (wisdom) and, if she hates it then she could always shorten to Zoe which is perfectly nice. We don't have any Polish links, does that matter do you think?

How do you pronounce Illaria? Is it just as it is written, Ill-ar-ia?

I do like Adeline but I worry it is going to become more popular and a bit faddy perhaps? It is quite popular in the States now.

Oh how I wish babies were born with name badges!

Diamantina

Yarp · 24/07/2015 11:50

I like Juno

And Fable is actually nice too - I love the abbreviation Fay/e

With your taste in mind, I suggest:

Serena
Elodie
Celeste
Julia
Christina
Bianca (sod Eastenders, I love it!)

louiseb1242 · 24/07/2015 11:57

Love Juno and Xanthe

Yarp · 24/07/2015 12:01

OP

Check out another thread on Baby Names entitled 'Unusual Names you love but would not use'

Some of these might be ones you would use.

lentilpot · 24/07/2015 12:03

Calliope?

Yarp · 24/07/2015 12:03

Lyra (I put that on the other thread)

FiftyShadesOfSporn · 24/07/2015 12:14

Illaria - yes, as written

waxweasel · 24/07/2015 15:12

Ilaria is spelt with one 'l'. It's an Italian name - Italian version of Hilary.

PallasCat · 24/07/2015 18:39

Coraline
Zouina
Thespie
Jacinta
Callista
Ariadne
Antigone
Thessaly
Ilayda
Demeter
Elika
Leandra
Athena
Sorcha
Olwen

Apologies for any repeats! Congratulations and good luck choosing Smile

janetandroysdaughter · 24/07/2015 18:48

Love Xanthe (DN's middle name) and Juno. Zelda is my favourite from your lists.

Not Illaria. I knew one. She got called Illy for short and she was always ill - sullen and grey faced as if the name was a hex on her.
