What do you think of Esme?

Keep coming back to this name for DD due in 2 weeks but would like opinions. Would use the 'EHZ-mae' pronunciation. Full name would be Esme Grace Sienesi (pronounced sea-nee-see). Grace is a family name so keeping in tradition. Her brother is Henry. Good match??

Was loving it and nodding until you mentioned Henry. Henry & Esme is a bit hard to say.

Lagoonablue · 24/07/2015 08:54

For Esme With Love and Squalor.

Love the name, wanted it for DD but was overruled. Plus love that book.

Treesandbees · 24/07/2015 09:10

Someone did say that I should call it out with Henry to see. It's hard to match all out criteria!

love it, very elegant

Stepawayfromthezebras · 24/07/2015 09:51

It's lovely

CakeRattleandRoll · 24/07/2015 10:00

Love it. Would have been top of our list for DD, but family member had already used it. Lovely with Grace, and is fine with Henry. And prefer your pronunciation too.

StopShoutingAtYourBrother · 24/07/2015 10:04

Oh I love this name! Loved and esteemed. If I had a DD2 I would call her Esme

tubbytimmy · 24/07/2015 10:07

I really like it. Especially with your surname.

cosmicglittergirl · 24/07/2015 10:09

It's a lovely name.

sweetpeame · 24/07/2015 10:22

I really like the name Esme. It sounds fine with Henry and in any case you won't say "Henry and Esme" that often.

applecatchers36 · 24/07/2015 10:29

Fabulous name!

Treesandbees · 24/07/2015 10:49

Thank you everyone!

Esme pronounced your way - nice.

Es-mee; really not.

Sparklingbrook · 24/07/2015 10:54

I don't understand the sounding fine with other DC's names bit. Confused Unless these children are going to come as a pair throughout their whole lives.

Esme is a lovely name.

Tiredemma · 24/07/2015 10:55

I have an Esme (Esme Florence). I had originally intended to pronounce it Es-Mee but everyone pronounces it Es-Mae (even the nursery nurses which means DD now also refers to herself with it pronounced that way)

its a beautiful name- strangely 'popular' but still rare if that makes sense?

Benchmark · 24/07/2015 16:30

This is one of my favourite girls names but the pronunciation problem really puts me off. I like the Ez-mee pronunciation far more than Ez-may but the latter seems to be the most popular.
Tiredemma - did the Ez-may pronunciation grow on you?

cece · 24/07/2015 16:38

My Esme is 14 now. She does get a few people calling her the other pronunciation but she says she doesn't mind.

Heidi122 · 24/07/2015 18:56

Love love love it!

musicinspring1 · 24/07/2015 19:10

I have a baby Esme so be warned that it will become very popular....I seem to pick names that then become popular.. I had one of the very first Amelies years ago.... and now this is the second or third Esme thread I've read recently. Shock Wink Grin Grin

soundsystem · 24/07/2015 19:22

I really like it. I know several Esme's under two - it does seem to be popular if that's an issue.

PuppyMonkey · 24/07/2015 19:29

Meh I have an Esme pronounced Ezmee - ten times nicer than Ez-May IMHO.

soontobeanana · 24/07/2015 19:33

love it but also think it will be very popular over the next couple of years. Have two friends who have just named their babies this.

BothEndsBurning · 24/07/2015 19:34

Too many sibilants. With your surname, I would avoid any names with s and z sounds.

ch1134 · 24/07/2015 19:41

I agree with pp about Esme Sienesi having too many 's' sounds. And I think sibling names do have to 'go'. Every time you're asked about your children you'll say their names together, sign cards... I still count myself as part of a sibling set even as an adult. Having said that, Henry and Esme is fine.

DoNotDenyMe · 24/07/2015 20:20

These comments are generally very positive - great as it's our top name choice if we have a girl.
