This is the name I always will people to use when their hormones they decide they like the name 'Plum'. So, to reverse that, you could use Plum as a nickname.

I actually prefer the 'Mirabel' spelling as well, but I always prefer the less frilly version (Annabel, Vivien, Juliet etc).

Be prepared for the nickname Mirrorball....

reuset · 24/07/2015 06:47

Who decides they like the 'name' Plum Grin Well done for suggesting an alternative though. I;d also add Victoria (I'm sure you've thought of that one too).

BitOutOfPractice · 24/07/2015 06:52

Isn't it a French ski resort?

CruCru · 24/07/2015 07:31

The ski resort is spelt Meribel.

BitOutOfPractice · 24/07/2015 07:58

Erm, I know. I was making a point.

BothEndsBurning · 24/07/2015 12:13

What is your point?

BitOutOfPractice · 24/07/2015 12:48

That it sounds like a French ski resort? Maybe? Hmm

BothEndsBurning · 24/07/2015 13:09

And? It's not as though people are put off by Sophia sounding like the capital of Bulgaria.

In any case, there will be thousands of people who have never heard of Meribel the French ski resort. Personally I think that the place name Meribel sounds like a girl's name.

zipzap · 24/07/2015 13:10

It's also a very nice but very strong liqueur made in France with the mirabelle plums Grin

Having said that I do know someone with the name and do think it's very pretty. Definitely not as common as many other French names that get used over here these days but not really way out either.
If you love it then go for it!

chrome100 · 24/07/2015 15:00

I like it!

Mumof3cherubs · 24/07/2015 15:06

I'd think ski resort too, I'm afraid.

BitOutOfPractice · 24/07/2015 17:21

Ok. Smashing. Thanks for the input.

Onemilliongal · 25/07/2015 14:24

Mirabel and maribel and mirabelle are all different, I agree they sound similar and might get confused but ......

It's beautifulSmile

LikeASoulWithoutAMind · 25/07/2015 14:37

It's not for me, personally. But do you really care whether the rest of us like it? If you love it then go for it.

sarahandemily · 25/07/2015 14:56

Not really sure about the name but wouldn't the default nn be Belle?

Billynoname · 25/07/2015 22:37

No, sorry it's not. What about other similar ish names like Mariella, Miranda, Mireille?

Pugthug · 25/07/2015 22:41

Nope not at all . It reminds me of too many things all at once. A ski resort, a caravan and name that would flow better if it you change the letters around.Sorry sets me edge that name.

ReallyTired · 25/07/2015 22:45

There is a Mirrabelle in "Five go to smugglers' top" by Enid blyton. I think it's a pretty name.

ReallyTired · 25/07/2015 22:49

Sorry I think the name might be Marybelle in that book.

ch1134 · 27/07/2015 11:43

For me it is in the same camp as 'Annabelle'. I'm not keen on these types of names as they sound like doll's names. But that's just me.

mika2 · 27/07/2015 11:51

Ski resort also the first thing that came to mind...

We called our daughter Mirabelle - everyone loves the name! You can do so much with it. Miri, Bella, belle, mira. Very versatile.
