Is Emma a bit "meh"

MrsSnow1 · 21/07/2015 19:55

DD1 due September. Already have 3 year old Henry.

I've always loved Emma. DH likes it also but thinks it is a bit bland. He really likes Bryony and Lana. I like them both also but really really love Emma. Is he right? Is it bland?

Thank you in advance :)

I know 3 DDs ages (between 3 and 5).

But also have 3 close friends called Emma so each one is always referenced with a short description (worked at x, mum to y, lives in z).

It's an ageless timeless classic but much too dull for me.

reuset · 21/07/2015 21:26

It is very nice indeed

OstentatiousBreastfeeder · 21/07/2015 21:27

I love it!

I'm a Lana. I don't know another one, and I constantly get compliments on how lovely and unusual it is.

Was a bit of a pain when classmates did the 'lets spell our names backwards' game though Grin

DansonslaCapucine · 21/07/2015 21:29

I love Emma.

To me, Bryony is just Bryan with a 'y' on the end.

Lana is ok.

mrstweefromtweesville · 21/07/2015 21:29

Emma is a sensible name, as is Henry. Well done.

GallopingFoxley · 21/07/2015 21:30

It's inoffensive but dull

SometimesItRains · 21/07/2015 21:33

Meh, dull - how dare you all! It is a timeless classic (not a bit biased at all me)

Didiusfalco · 21/07/2015 21:34

Lovely name. Its classic and goes very well with Henry.

Not keen on your DHs suggestions.

Kim82 · 21/07/2015 21:38

I love it and it was on our list for dd3 along with Anna which I also adore! We didn't use either name though as it didn't suit her when she was born.

Thatsnotmybabyname · 21/07/2015 21:45

Love the name Emma! Go for it!

leccybill · 21/07/2015 21:47

If you have any Irish connection, Emer (ee-mer) is really nice.

answersonapostcardplease · 21/07/2015 22:32

Tortally Meh as is Emily. Your other names ate far more interesting.

answersonapostcardplease · 21/07/2015 22:35

Henry and Kate
Henry and Catherine
Iris
Luna

VixxFace · 21/07/2015 22:36

It's not good.

DramaAlpaca · 21/07/2015 22:39

It's lovely, my favourite girls' name.

I didn't get to use it myself as I had all boys.

EBearhug · 21/07/2015 22:41

Emma is a very excellent name (I am totally unbiased, obviously.)

One thing in its favour - people can usually pronounce it and spell it without any issue, regardless of their first language (at least in Europe.) This is a bonus if she ends up working for a multinational.

Colleagues in Sweden, Netherlands and England all have daughters called Emma, born since I first met them. It's not actually compulsory, though.

littlejohnnydory · 21/07/2015 22:42

I do love Emma. I considered it but slightly too popular for me - I don't think it is as popular as it used to be though. I much, much prefer it to Bryony or Lana!

Indomitable · 21/07/2015 22:42

I like Emma! You don't see many young Emma's around these days.

I've known Emma's that are delicate, Emma's that are studious and Emma's that are fierce (in a good way).

I've never known a difficult Emma.

(Apostrophes added by iOS, I can't work out if they're correctly placed.)

scaryg · 21/07/2015 22:43

I'm thinking of Emma for 2nd DC due in Feb. I already have a Rebecca DD3.5

Glitoris · 21/07/2015 22:44

I love it,tell your dh the decision is made Grin

RVPisnomore · 21/07/2015 22:44

Sorry but I think it's very dull. Prefer the other names.

Hellion7433 · 21/07/2015 22:46

Lana is a bit inner city estate to me. Bryony is much like Brian

Emma is stunning, classic, timeless. Emmeline is even nicer!

Indole · 21/07/2015 22:50

Emma is lovely. It's not exciting but it is both pretty and classy.

Bryony and Lana are both a little bit horrible. Lana better than Bryony by a whisker.
