This is it really. Considering it as a middle name but I only like it pronounced as EH-LEE-AS. Really don't like E-Lye-us..
How would you pronounce it?

El-eye-as - sorry. But if it's only a middle name does it matter so much.

I would say it like the others... El-lie-as

I knew a Spanish girl called Elia and think it's very feminine how you'd want it pronounced.

Eh lee as but only because I know someone called that and that's how they pronounce it.

El-ee-as but only as I holidayed in a very nice hotel in Cyprus called the Elias beach!

Eh-Lee-as but that's because I knew one (Polish parents I think). British people would mainly pronounce it Eh-lye-as.

Ill - EYE - us. That's how I've always heard it said in church.

El-eye-us. Emphasis on the middle syllable.

El-eye-us is the only way I've heard it, and that was as a surname.

El-ee-as but again that's because I once knew (a rather beautiful) boy with the name and that's how he pronounced it. That brought back memories of my youth Grin

Eh-LYE-us.
I'm trying to think when I last heard someone say my middle name. I'm pretty sure it was at my graduation 15 years ago. Before that, at my confirmation at the age of 12. Before that, presumably at my baptism.
Do you think it'll be a problem?

If you like the "Eh-lee" sound then how about Elliot?

Sophronia · 15/07/2015 21:30

Eh-lye-us, but I know it's Eh-lee-as in many other countries.

I know an eh-lee-as! I think it sounds weird the other way to be honest.

I know an Elias who pronounces it ELL-ee-us (like us as in cous cous not us like fuss)

I normally think of it as ill-EYE-as but I've known one person called ELLY-as - he was of Middle Eastern/Arabic ancestry.
