This is it really. Considering it as a middle name but I only like it pronounced as EH-LEE-AS. Really don't like E-Lye-us..
How would you pronounce it?

E Lie us

whatsagoodusername · 15/07/2015 18:54

I would say Eh-lye-us.

Blueberrybaby · 15/07/2015 18:54

El-eye-as - sorry. But if it's only a middle name does it matter so much.

TheHouseOnBellSt · 15/07/2015 18:56

I would say it like the others... El-lie-as

I knew a Spanish girl called Elia and think it's very feminine how you'd want it pronounced.

Juliecloud · 15/07/2015 19:04

Eh lee as but only because I know someone called that and that's how they pronounce it.

turdfairynomore · 15/07/2015 19:07

El-ee-as but only as I holidayed in a very nice hotel in Cyprus called the Elias beach!

RiverTam · 15/07/2015 19:10

Eh-Lee-as but that's because I knew one (Polish parents I think). British people would mainly pronounce it Eh-lye-as.

barbecue · 15/07/2015 21:13

Ill - EYE - us. That's how I've always heard it said in church.

SanityClause · 15/07/2015 21:16

El-eye-us. Emphasis on the middle syllable.

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 15/07/2015 21:16

El-eye-us is the only way I've heard it, and that was as a surname.

DevaDiva · 15/07/2015 21:23

El-ee-as but again that's because I once knew (a rather beautiful) boy with the name and that's how he pronounced it. That brought back memories of my youth Grin

villainousbroodmare · 15/07/2015 21:27

Eh-LYE-us.
I'm trying to think when I last heard someone say my middle name. I'm pretty sure it was at my graduation 15 years ago. Before that, at my confirmation at the age of 12. Before that, presumably at my baptism.
Do you think it'll be a problem?

barbecue · 15/07/2015 21:29

If you like the "Eh-lee" sound then how about Elliot?

Sophronia · 15/07/2015 21:30

Eh-lye-us, but I know it's Eh-lee-as in many other countries.

I know an eh-lee-as! I think it sounds weird the other way to be honest.

SingForBacon · 16/07/2015 19:36

I know an Elias who pronounces it ELL-ee-us (like us as in cous cous not us like fuss)

Before I knew him I would have said it Ee-LIE-us (same us as above) or

Deeperdown · 16/07/2015 20:19

el eee ass

EmmaWoodlouse · 16/07/2015 20:51

I normally think of it as ill-EYE-as but I've known one person called ELLY-as - he was of Middle Eastern/Arabic ancestry.

Tattiesthroughthebree · 16/07/2015 21:02

Ehl-LIE-us

HelloIAmBaymax · 16/07/2015 21:09

I used it as a middle name and we pronounce it Eh-LYE-us

bobajob · 16/07/2015 21:11

El-ee-as.
