Hi how popular is Henry now? I'm due towards the end of this year. I love it. Is it only popular in certain areas? Thanks!

To put it in perspective there were about 4,000 Henry's born last year in the UK Which in the grand scheme of every baby is nil.

I know one 4 year old who is a friend at preschool. That's it. My primary school son doesn't know any.

I love the name personally. Very cool for a popular name.

SpamAnderson · 19/07/2015 20:16

It's quite popular amongst preschoolers here but I love it, such a classic name. It's one of my favourites but we have an H surname so just isn't compatible.
IMO if you love a name, choose it, don't worry about how popular it is, you won't fall out of love with it just because there's another Henry in his year/class etc :)

BitandBot · 19/07/2015 22:59

I think it's going to be top 10 soon. Every baby boy I hear of at the moment is Henry. I think it's the new Harry and heading for top 5.

BitandBot · 19/07/2015 23:01

I don't think it's as popular over the age of 2 but I honestly think there's a Henry name explosion on the horizon. Rather like what happened with Jack or oliver. Avoid if you want unusual.

Ipushedmygrannyaffabus · 19/07/2015 23:22

Never met any in scotland. Know 4 who live in the SE of England, ranging from late teens to toddlers.

April1984 · 20/07/2015 00:06

Thanks all. I guess could become
Super popular but think that's a risk with lots of already fairly popular names that 'suddenly' go into the top five. I think the statistics people produce some results in August so I'll keep an eye on them. Thanks for all your input!

It's my top name choice my criteria last time and this time was nothing in top 50 but I make an exception for Henry as I just love it so much. I know a lot of toddlers and babies and know of 2.

MishMooshAndMogwai · 20/07/2015 10:07

It's our name for dc2 due tomorrow.

There's 1 in each of DDS 2 nurseries and 2 in my yr5 class so 2 aged around 3 and 2 aged 9.

I don't know any more but am a little worried about how many existing/future Henrys we will encounter once we have ours! I'm still using it though :)

Gunpowder · 20/07/2015 10:14

I don't know any under 30! I think popularity doesn't matter so much with really classic names like Henry: they don't date in the same way.

AdorabeezleWinterpop · 28/07/2015 16:09

I have one (aged 2) and know 4 others. On holiday recently, it seemed like every other boy was named Henry. I still love it though!

Luckyfellow · 28/07/2015 16:14

My nephew is called Henry. He is the only Henry in his school. I have never met another Henry and I have been to a lot of toddler groups over the last few years. We are in Ireland though where it is not a popular name.

BornToFolk · 28/07/2015 16:19

I have a Henry! He's 7. There was another one at nursery but no more in his school (or at any of his extra-curricular activities actually)

I hope it doesn't explode in popularity but I still love it.

Wishful80sMontage · 28/07/2015 16:43

I've already posted but Adora's post reminded me to add that although in east mods where I am Henry's overly popular not same ways as William/Noah/Harry but we recently went on hols in south east and my goodness literally every boy was called Henry it was actually crazy whenever we were at the beach etc there were a lot of 'Henry come here' etc very popular down south!

April1984 · 28/07/2015 18:43

Ha that's fine then as I'm currently an ex pat and will be heading North when go back to the UK!

DH really wants us to name our baby Henry, I'm due in 7 weeks and although I think it's a really nice name, we're in the SE and it's just too popular for me!

PotteringAlong · 29/07/2015 14:27

I know loads!
