How can Rosalind be dated when its been around for about a thousand years and popularized in the 16th Century, and still used now?

Many names, and older names, go in and out of fashion. Hmm What about that don't you get?

reuset · 14/07/2015 19:43

Rosalindis and Rosalinda were around before, but none really used in Eng until Rosalind in C16. Rosalind later in fashion again (see that, it comes in out out of fashion!) thanks to Anthony Trollope and Thackeray. Rosamund has been the more enduring and earlier used in Eng.

Rosalind is also shortened to Linda (to whoever asked about the 'lind' part). Linda is quite out of fashion at present, check stats if unsure.

I get that dated and in and out of fashion are two different things, for a start Hmm

When precisely do you think its dated to ?

reuset · 14/07/2015 19:58

Winter Grin

Dated means precisely that: out of fashion, unfashionable.

Shall I supply you with a dictionary definition?

WinterOfOurDiscountTents15 · 14/07/2015 20:14

Sure. Look up "needlessly arsey" and "fucking rude" while you're at it.

As you say, dated means out of fashion, not in and out of fashion. Also if you're calling in unfashionable now presumably there was a point when it was fashionable?
Rosalind is no more or less timeless than Rosamund.

RiverTam · 14/07/2015 20:15

It's nice but agree that Rosamund is nicer.

reuset · 14/07/2015 20:17

Now, now, Winter. You haven't been that bad, I've heard worse Grin

Fashion come and goes, in and out, by very definition (I thought I'd finished teaching for the day!)

Leave Rosamund alone. Wink

Rosalind is beautiful.

marshmallowpies · 14/07/2015 22:53

Love the full name but can't bear Roz.
