Same baby name as an ex-boyrfriend's name??

Am not that far along but starting to think about names. Our favourite boy's name at the moment is Elliott as it's my late Granddad's middle name, I also love the name a lot, great nickname potential, goes really well with our DS name. I would really love to honour my Granddad who meant a lot to me growing up. To add to this DS name is my DH late brother's middle name, so I would like to something similar on my side.

But Elliott is also the name of an ex boyfriend I had when I was in my early 20s, it was nothing serious and only lasted about 6 months, we didn't live together etc, it all fizzled out when we wanted different things. Haven't seen him since split up which was almost a decade ago and have only had brief contact since. This was also when I live abroad, so only a few friends and family know about him and as far as I know he still lives there.

But will it still look slightly weird and creepy?! Tia

Nope, not at all - the name has meaning to you both completely aside from your ex boyfriend. I would use it definitely.

I have an ex called Leon and I love the name but couldn't have used it for either of my DSs as we were together for 4 years.
He's still a top bloke and we're still friends but that would have definitely been weird!!! But your ex boyfriend connection is infinitely smaller than your family connection to it.

As long as you didn't split up hating each other, or be constantly stalking each other trying to get ack together, I don't see it as an issue.

It certainly wouldn't stop me using it. My DS's name is almost identical to an ex-bf's surname (think Matthew vs Matthews), and no-one has ever commented on it.

I felt unable to use an old boyfriend's name (Joseph/Joe) even though it is one of my favourite names, but DH said he wouldn't have minded, and now I wonder why I made such a big deal of it.

In your case I think you have very good reasons for wanting to use Elliott and I wouldn't give it a second thought unless your DH is very unhappy about it, which it doesn't sound as if he is.

Out of curiosity, what are the nicknames you mentioned? I don't think I know any nicknames/short forms of Elliott!
