Rose Ethel

I've already had a thread about a different first name with Ethel, so I've heard all the stuff people think about Ethel as a name in general. But what do you think about this as a combination? Classic English surname beginning with B, two syllables.

I actually prefer Ethel Rose.
I haven't seen your other threads Smile

swancourt · 09/07/2015 13:25

The gist of the other thread is that everybody hates Ethel, ha ha.

Really? There is no accounting for taste Wink

Allthatnonsense · 09/07/2015 13:46

I like it. Rose is so pretty and quite rare as a first name.

BBQsAreSooooOverrated · 09/07/2015 13:47

I prefer Ethel Rose actually Too.
I quite like Ethel. Definitely a grower.

iamnotaponceyloudperson · 09/07/2015 13:49

Rose is very pretty and although its quite cutesy works as an adult too. Wouldn't worry too much about what anyone thinks of middle names. I couldn't tell you what any of my DCs' friends' middle names are and can only remember the mid names of two of my friends' kids and one of my 3 nieces!!

swancourt · 09/07/2015 13:55

I know, but I have to like the middle name :D And you never know if they'll end up needing or using it. I am loving this name right now.

Not even pregnant - ttc DC3 though :)

Not even pregnant!!! I was the same trying out endless names for about 2 years, still DC3 had no name til he was 2 weeks old and I'm not sure I like it now. Good luck.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 09/07/2015 14:01

I don't mind Ethel but I also prefer Ethel Rose to Rose Ethel. I don't think Rose Ethel flows very well.

brusselsproutwarning · 09/07/2015 14:03

Love name Rose. But Ethel is too much like nettle . I'd only use Ethel if it was a family name as in some sort of tradition.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 09/07/2015 14:26

Love Rose but can't stand Ethel.
But Ethel Rose flows. Where as Rose Ethel doesn't.

SunnyBaudelaire · 09/07/2015 14:28

Ethel is awful and Rose added to it makes it even worse.

GinUpGirl · 09/07/2015 14:47

I love Ethel. Rose is boring.

Something Rose has a better rhythm than Rose Something. Ethel is a bit 'dusty' as a name.

Sophronia · 09/07/2015 15:00

I like it, Rose as a first name is lovely but boring and generic as a middle name.

MamaLazarou · 09/07/2015 15:35

Sorry, there's nothing you can do to Ethel to make it pretty: not even adding Rose to it.

IsadoraQuagmire · 09/07/2015 15:55

I think Ethel is a lovely name, and Rose is beautiful.

TempsPerdu · 09/07/2015 17:05

Ethel Rose does flow better, but (aside from the fact I don't like Ethel) it makes me think of one of those Anglo-Saxon kings - Ethelbert or Ethelred the Unready!

I do like Rose as a first name though.

Indantherene · 09/07/2015 18:53

Those who think Ethel is a "lovely name" have you got particularly strong accents that change the sound? It has an ugly sound to it, and is usually said "Effl".

mathanxiety · 10/07/2015 02:15

Sounds like Rose Pethal is missing a P.

Please do not use Ethel for any future baby. It is truly dreadful.

Unless the people you know are remarkably well spoken the th turns into a f

drudgetrudy · 10/07/2015 19:21

Ethel wouldn't become Effl in the North but I still dislike it-its a granny name too far for me.
