Hello! Thank you for your impending help!

DS1 due in a month or so, just feel like we're getting nowhere with names for him. I suggest everything while DH vetoes and doesn't suggest anything serious, you know the drill.

Names I like but don't exactly thrill me to my bones..

Arthur
Ted (short for something nice that doesn't seem to exist)
Elliott (being afraid of ET as a child I'm not sure this is a great choice, plus no good nn choices)
Charlie
Louis/Louie( these are pronounced the same, right?)

Are any of these ok or do you think they're all a bit shit?

Just feel a bit meh about boys names, I found naming dd much more fun as I think girls can get away with more whereas to me boys need a good strong 'normAl' name.

DD is called Fearne if that helps with my taste?!

Prefer short names as we have a longish surname.
Hit me with your best criticism/suggestions please! X

At least Twix as a middle name?! Wink
I really like Elliot and Louis from your ideas so far.

Maybe...
Luca
Lewis
Gregor
Ivor
Ivan
Bruno
Marco
Roman
Aston
Jasper
Jacob
Eli
Oscar

Good luck!

Louis always just seems to me to be missing something - I think it's just a consonant sound short of the full phonetic picnic. Agree with pp that Lewis could be a good alternative?

Or Laurence/Lawrence (nn 'Lorry')?

From your list my preferences are Charlie and Arthur. Ted seems to be everywhere at the moment. Good luck!

AliAliAlium · 08/07/2015 21:48

I like all of your list apart from Charlie. Which I don't dislike, but which just seems a bit insubstantial to me (and I'm not keen on Charles).

Use the Louis spelling though, if you go with this. Louie is a Disney duck.

Lewis is good, as is Laurence nn Laurie.

DextersMistress · 08/07/2015 21:50

Alex?

CakeRattleandRoll · 09/07/2015 05:15

I like Ted, but would use it as nn for something longer (Edward/Edwin/Edmund/Edgar).
I like Louis (that spelling). Or Lewis, if you want the 's' to be pronounced.
I like Elliott, but see what you mean about no nn.

None of your choices are a bit shit!

How about:
Adam
Andrew
Angus
Asher
Blake
Clement
Cyrus
John
Joseph
Lincoln
Mitchell
Orson
Owen
Paul
Peter
Rex
Robert
Ross
Roy
Rufus
Ryan
Troy
Victor

I like Twix. Definitely middle name!

thisbabyisgoingtocomeoutatwix · 09/07/2015 09:29

Can I have Joe on its own? Or should it just be a nn? Don't want this child to hate me for giving him no options! X

Alexander/Alex
Maximilian/Maximus/Max
Leonard/Leo
Ethan
Henry/Harry
Oliver
Lucas

CakeRattleandRoll · 09/07/2015 09:59

I would definitely use Joseph on the birth certificate and Joe as nn. (Speaking as the mother of a 3yo Edward who is always known as Teddy.) I know people say they don't understand why you would name them one thing then call them another, but the answer to that is that naming a child should be about the child not about the parent, and it is better for the child to have options if they want a more formal name later in life.

BothEndsBurning · 09/07/2015 10:02

What Cake said. Very well put.

BothEndsBurning · 09/07/2015 10:05

Plus there are other option besides Joseph, if you're not keen. I know a Joe whose full name is Jonathan. There's also Josiah, Joel and probably quite a few more if you widen it out a bit.

RedToothBrush · 09/07/2015 10:06

Joe could always be J. So there is still an option there if you didn't fancy anything longer.

BothEndsBurning · 09/07/2015 10:08

You have to feel sorry for people called Jay and Kay. They're really fucked, aren't they!

Daffodil1210 · 09/07/2015 10:13

My DS is Zachary - my DH poo-poo'd it while we were trying to draw up a shortlist while still pregnant. To cut a long story short, when DS arrived he didn't look like any of the names we'd shortlisted and so I tried again with Zachary and lo-and-behold DH declared his love for the name, having suffered some sort of amnesia and claiming that he doesn't remember me suggesting it previously... Hmm

So, if there's a name you really like and your DH has said no to, just wait until he's in that post-labour fog and suggest again... Worked for me! Grin

FraggleHair · 09/07/2015 17:06

I like Louis and Elliott.

Teds and Teddys are suddenly absolutely everywhere. What started the craze?

PallasCat · 09/07/2015 19:20

Nice one, Daffodil!

TremoloGreen · 10/07/2015 13:31

Arthur and Louis are great. Do you also like:

Freddie
Sebastian
Theo
Oscar
Finn or Finlay
Hugo or Hugh
Isaac
Reuben
Noah
Rafe
Max

thisbabyisgoingtocomeoutatwix · 10/07/2015 13:41

I like most of those suggestions Tremolo!
A lot of them are spoken for already though :(
Love love love Freddie!
